Dog Clothes

The one thing that I love about small dogs is that your can dress them up in cute clothes- sweaters, shirts, costumes, etc. Not to say that you can't dress up larger dogs, but there's just not as much to choose from when you try to dress up a Mastiff or a Lab. The dog fashion companies seem to forget that big dog lovers like to dress up their dogs, too.

But, anyway, I thought I was safe getting a small dog. I could finally dress him up... Well, he's a boy and he's going act like it, demanding, "MOMMY you will not put that ugly blue sweater on me and if you try, I'ma bite you!" Well, he bit. Ha. So, I was forced to leaving my poor yorkie naked. When I finally found a nice jacket that just velcroed around him, and he let me try it on at the store, I was extatic; well, when I got home and tried it, he refused to wear it.

So, now I'm forced to dress up a 60 plus pound American Pit Bull Terrier puppy, while my yorkie looks and laughs at her. The problem is... She only fits in the ugly clothes! That or she doesn't fit in anything but my t- shirts... So, sad...

Keeping Your Pooch Warm

But, I'm not here complain about my troubles finding large breed dog clothes. I want to just go over a few of the different dog clothes that you can find out there on the market. And, what is available has a nice variety.

What you may be interested in is a nice sweater or jacket to keep your pup warm in the cooler months. Of course, these sweaters and jackets are temporary fixes to the cold. No dog should be left outside in extreme cold temperatures, no matter how long or short the dog's fur.

You can find woven sweaters, hoodie- style sweaters, and crocheted dog sweaters. These sweaters can be solid colored, patterned, or screen printed.

On terms of dog jackets, they come in a wide variety. I've seen fru- fru jackets, sophisticated dog jackets, and other style jackets. I've seen cotton jackets, wool jackets, denim jackets, suede jackets, and jackets composed of a combination of materials.

Keeping Warm

Your dog has to look stylish to. Just don't over do it. He doesn't need a princess costume or a superman one, either. A simple jacket or sweater is all that your dog needs during the cooler months.

Dogs that qualify for a jacket must:

  • Older dogs
  • Small dogs
  • Short haired dogs
  • Dogs with thin hair

I'm pretty sure you average Chow Chow or Siberian Husky doesn't need a sweater during the cooler months. They have the perfect hair condition to keep themselves insulated without a dog jacket or sweater. Your Weimaraner or Greyhound, on the other hand, may deserve a a sweater during winter.

What About the Warmer Months

I mean in all reality, your dog can't wear his favorite sweater year- round. He needs a nice t- shirt. Dog shirts come in almost the same variety as people shirts. You'll find screen printed t- shirts, solid t- shirts, and shirts with patterns, usually stripes.

The most common dog shirt that I see, are those with the cute sayings, such as "Does this Shirt Make Me look Fat."

When my American Pit Bull was a puppy, well a younger, smaller puppy, she had a shirt that said "Yes I am a Pit Bull. Get Over It!" I love that shirt. I need to see if I can get it in a larger size.

You can find doggy polo shirts striped or solid variations.

You can find nearly any type of dog shirt that you could think of.

Below I've found 14 different doggy shirts that may suit you and your pup's tastes. If not, then maybe I've at least sparked the created juices and have you thinking about the perfect shirt for your dog.

Whitney - this is great and a fun alternative to the style topic! I love it. When my little dog was a puppy, we (no, I mean I) got him a cute sweater in a Burberry pattern. OMG - people died over that photo. My hubby won't really let me dress the dogs anymore, but its still really fun to drool over the offerings at inexpensive places like Target.

Thanks Steph! Like I said in the article. I've tried so hard to dress up my yorkie, and nothing... :-( My APBT was great to dress up as a pup, but she quickly grew out of all her shirts, even the jacket she's wearing in the first pictures. She fits in my t- shirts. Ha. I love dressing dogs up. I put my mom's st bernard/ collie mix in my brother's boxers and my tank top. It was so cute!

I love this Hub! The pictures are adorable. I've got to start looking for something to put on my Husky. I agree with Stephhicks68, for people who don't have kids, dogs are a great substitute - and you don't have to pay for them to go to college. LOL
