Motion blurs have always been haunting professional photographers and now cannon has brought forth the Canon PowerShot A590IS 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom camera which promises that motion induced blurs will be the talk of the history. Enhanced motion detection technology is incorporated into the device along with features like Face detection, white balance, and the much fabled red eye reduction. The specifications of the camera are as listed below.

The sensor which forms the heart of the device is a ½.5’’ charge coupled device with 8 million pixels which are in effect. DIGIC III processor is being employed in this model too for image processing. The maximum and the minimum resolutions provided are 3264x2448 and 640x480. Movie clips can be shot at 15fps, 20 fps and 30fps with resolutions ranging between 160x120 to 320x240. Some of the file formats supported are WAVE audio, JPEG and AVI. Some of the technical specifications of the lens are as follows. Mainly it features a 4x optical zoom which amounts to 35-140mm which is equivalent to 35mm. Focal length of the lens ranges in between 2.6 and 5.5mm. Image stabilization can also be found which features lens shift technology. Conversion lenses can also be employed in tandem with the product. A tele-converter of 1.75xTC-DC52A and a Wide-Converter of 0.7xWC-DC52 is employed. Upto 4x digital zoom is employed in the product.

Focus is auto with TTL auto focus in play. AF area modes are AiAF for face detection and 1 point detection for fixed centre or selecting face and tracking them. An assist lamp has also been provided for assisting the auto focus. The closest focus distance of the camera is 5cm from the frontal lens. This is otherwise known as the macro mode in the camera. The metering is evaluative with centre-weighted average and spot weighted average. Different ISO modes can also be set and these include Auto ISO, High ISO Auto for automatic motion blur detecting and deleting along with 80, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600. Sadly the exposure bracketing is absent from the camera. The default factory set shutter speed is 1/60 – 1/2000 of a second and it can be appropriately varied in between 15 - 1/2000 of a second.

The aperture of the camera is strangely unspecified and the camera also features different modes such as Portrait, Landscape, Kids and Pets to name a few. White balance is done automatically with the help of Face detection technology along with manual modes like Daylight, Cloudy and Fluorescent. Fine tuning the white balance is another gripe which is absent for the product. The self timer can be set to a preset of 2 secs or 10 secs and can be custom set too. Another feature which is absent in the product is the continuous shooting mode. The flash can be set to function in auto mode or slow sync to reduce the red eye effects. The range of the flash is from 30 cm to 3.5 m.
