Canon's Entry Into High Definition Video

Almost three years ago, in September of 2005, Canon continued its role as a pioneer in the digital camcorder industry, with the announcement of the XL H1. This new entry into the market was Canon's first to offer high definition. Though the camera was initially developed to appeal to professional videographers (as well as amateur enthusiasts), the XL H1 still has the simple, easy to use operability of Canon's popular XL2. Essentially, the camera has all of the benefits of the XL2, while adding the clarity of high definition.

XL H1 camcorder (along with the 20x HD video lens)

The XL H1 is the most advanced digital video camera that Canon offers, and has use in every facet of professional content making, from Hollywood down to local wedding photography. With its HD 20X zoom lens, the XL 5.4-108mm L IS II, photographers have the ability to capture images at a distance, adding to Canon’s aim of supplying the highest quality equipment in the digital video camera industry.

The XL H1 camcorder (along with the 20x HD video lens) will allow broadcasters to shoot in 1080i resolution, the preferred option for ENG, documentary, and reality television productions.

There are numerous other benefits that the XL H1 offers, including Cine controls and a 24 frame rate option. Additionally, exclusive to Canon, the custom jackpack features include uncompressed digital HD-SDI output, allowing for completely seamless integration into broadcast studios, or, alternatively, image transfer to non linear editing systems.

Professional Photographers - The Genlock Feature

Professional photographers will also appreciate the genlock feature, giving producers the ability to easily synchronize camera settings across multiple camcorders. This promises to simplify the process, while saving time. SMPTE time codes will also make for more streamlined tape and edit management.

The XL H1 also has three 1/3 inch, 1.67 megapixel interlaced CCDs that capture images at 1080i resolution. Also featuring selectable frame rates of 50i and 25f, the XL H1 can capture fast motion, along with just about anything else.
