cape cod vacation

A cape cod vacation is essential to any summer! Cape Cod is a beautiful place to visit and vacation. Breathtaking beaches, quaint cottages and architecture, and exciting recreation make Cape Cod a premier vacation destination.

As a genuine cape codder, I've spent many summers :) and winters :( on Cape Cod. In this hub you will find valuable information and tips for anyone planning a cape cod vacation.

When to Visit

Cape Cod vacations are best taken when the weather is warm and seasonal. Visit the links section of this hub for Cape Cod weather including average highs and lows. The best months to visit Cape Cod are June, July, August, and September. If you are planning on spending a lot of time at the beach or on the water you'll want to visit at the last two weeks of June, July or August.

Tourism on Cape Cod is high during the summer months. You can sometimes get better deals on lodging if you come at the very beginning or end of the tourist season.

If you are looking to enjoy the Cape Cod's beautiful foliage then you will want to visit in October or early November.

The summer months tend to experience less rainfall than the rest of the year.

Where to Stay

Cape Cod has a wide variety of place for tourists to stay while vacationing. Bed and breakfasts, campgrounds, hotels & motels, and Inns are all available to satisfy your accommodation needs.

Visit this website to help decide what lodging venue is right for your vacation.

cape cod summer activities

There is a lot to do while vacationing on Cape Cod. Listed here are some of my recommendations for cape cod summer activities.

1. Beaches. Cape Cod features many beautiful beaches. If you are coming to Cape Cod you don't want to miss out on a relaxing day in the sand. Some of my favorite beaches are Cahoon Hollow in Welfleet, Nauset beach in Orleans, and Craigville beach in Centerville.

2. Whale Watching. This is a great way to spend some time on the water and see some of natures most beautiful creatures. Visit Hyannis Whale Watcher Cruises for this worthwhile experience.

3. Deep Sea Fishing. Always a good time. Cape Cod is one of the best places for fishing! Visit Rockin Robin Fishing Charters for all your fishing needs.

4. Golfing. Enjoy a day of golfing on Cape Cod. Try the Sandwich Hollows Golf Club for a great time.

5. The Islands. Embark on the Steamship Authority or HyLine for Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. I wouldn't miss this. Well worth the trip. No Cape Cod vacation is complete without a trip to the islands.

6. Shopping. You can always shop at the Cape Cod Mall located in Hyannis, but for more local flavor and genuine cape cod shops take and evening stroll down Main St. in Hyannis or visit Commercial St. in Provincetown.

7. The Cape Cod Summer Baseball League. If you like baseball you won't want to miss this. Every summer all of the top college and university baseball players come to Cape Cod and participate in a summer baseball league. All of the games are free to attend. I've provided a link to the website in the links section of this hub. Some of the best ball players have participated in the Cape Cod summer baseball league such as Kevin Youkilis, Jason Varitek, Bill Mueller, Kevin Millar, Mike Lowell, and Todd Helton just to name a few.

8. The Cape Cod Melody Tent. For music and comedy acts visit the Cape Cod Melody Tent. Get your tickets early as many shows sell out. A great way to spend an evening on Cape Cod.

9. Mini Golf. A fun activity for the afternoon or evening. Pirates Cove in Yarmouth is definitely one of the best mini golf courses on the Cape.

10. Heritage Museum and Gardens. This is my favorite of all the museums on Cape Cod. Visit their website for a full listing of all that is offered. A great way to spend a relaxing afternoon.

Where to Eat

There are many wonderful restaurants on Cape Cod. I'd recommend visiting the Cape Cod Dining guide so you can select a dining establishment that best suits your needs.

A few of my favorite Cape Cod Resturants are listed here:

  1. The Roadhouse Cafe - Hyannis
  2. The Paddock - Hyannis
  3. Sam Diegos - Hyannis
  4. Whimpy's - Osterville
  5. Mattakeese Wharf - Barnstable
  6. The Regatta - Cotuit
  7. The Lighthouse Inn - West Dennis
  8. Albertos - Hyannis
  9. The Lobster Claw - Orleans
  10. The Lobster Pot - Provincetown

Cape Cod Vacation Tip

The traffic on Cape Cod can be extremely bad especially during the summer when tourism is at it's highest. The main roads are very difficult to maneuver on. Also, there is a definite lack of signs to assist tourists navigate the Cape. I'd strongly recommend the use of a GPS to help you navigate the back roads.

This is a great page with a ton of helpful info for someone who's going to visit Cape Cod! Though I usually review Cape Cod Hotels, I'm going to definitely check out the summer rentals place...that's probably a great alternative, especially for a family looking to spend more than just a week or so.
