Car Number Plate Fixing
66Ever wondered how those car number plates are held on when you can see no visible screws! Sticky tape you say, well sort of!
Ever since I have been interested in cars I have always stuck my numberplates on with double sided adhesive tape. It has the benefit of no visible fixings and the plates last longer as there are no holes for water to ingress and start de-laminating the number plate, I bet you have all seen those horrible black marks that appear as the plate comes apart.
The tape normally comes in handy strips or on a roll if you are buying in bulk. It is usually foam based and 1-2mm thick. You must choose a high quality tape as you don't want your plates falling off, it should be UV stable and waterproof....!!!
Also the secret is in the preparation of the surfaces as they must be clinicaly clean. The best way I have found is to remove the old plates and wash the area fully then dry. Then you degrease the vehicle and numberplate with Isopropanol, let it evaporate then you can stick the plates in position and they will stay there for years.
