There are several different options in choosing a car bed for your son or even daughter.  Because these kinds of theme beds have been searched for quite extensively in the past few years, major furniture manufacturers and toy brands have teamed up to create plenty of models to choose from.  The most popular style and models come from the Little Tikes Car Bed line, and include beds for boys and girls which can be used for many years.  There are also car beds available from Disney, KidKraft and even at your local Target or WalMart store.

Prices for kid’s beds usually range from just north of $100 to close to $1000, depending on quality and location of purchase.  However, for this article we will feature different care bed models that are closer to the $150-500 range.  As always, make sure you do your own research when purchasing a major piece of furniture like a bed.

As you spend time looking for that perfect car bed, keep in mind there are all kinds of car beds for boys that you may not see in local furniture stores. You should also consider talking to custom furniture makers in your area that may be able to create a custom car bed your son will fall in love with. And having a one-of-a-kind car bed will be something your entire family can be proud of.

When talking to custom bed makers make sure you ask to see pictures of their previous creations, and find out how involved you can be in the creation process. Will they allow you to help pick colors and design elements? Most quality makers will love to have your input on the project, and maybe even your child can get involved.

Before making your final decision on what kids of car bed you want, it will be important for you to see many examples. Spend some time searching the internet for various terms including “car beds for boys”, “unique car beds” and even “custom boy beds”. Many different webpages exist that not only sell car beds but also will help in the design and creative process of your special bed.

Currently, the most popular car bed from Little Tikes is the “Lightning McQueen” toddler bed, themes from the Disney movie “Cars”.  The bed ranges around the three-hundred dollar mark online, and much less if purchased used via a garage sale or Craigslist.  When purchased as new, the bed should include wood mattress supports and several decorative decals.  The bed is designed to hold a standard twin size mattress, which is not included, and adjusts, to two different height levels.

If your child doesn’t need, or want, the Disney movie connection, Little Tikes also sells generic race car beds.  Available in red, blue and pink, the twin sports car beds sell for around two-hundred fifty dollars.

Also found in the Little Tikes catalog, is the Thomas & Friends bed from the popular PBS show “Thomas the Train”.  This particular bed specializes in not only sleep comfort, but also includes several handy storage cubbies within the bed framework.  Designed as a train engine, a large “face” of Thomas the Train sets over the foot of the bed and storage bin, while the back of the engine creates a shelf above the head of the bed.  This Little Tikes bed costs around two-hundred eighty dollars new and also fits a standard twin size mattress.

Overall we have found Little Tikes toys AND furniture to be very well made, designed to stand up against years of play from your children, and nearly indestructible.  Many families have passed these bed models down for several generations due to their popularity and durability.

For smaller children, Walgreens also carries a “Lightning McQueen” bed, this one with wooden rails for the young boy just out of the crib.  Designed to hold up to fifty-pounds, this bed sells for just under $100 and could be a good choice for smaller bedrooms as well. 

Disney has also partnered with online retailer “Rooms to Go Kids” to create a Disney Cars twin bed without the “toyish” feel of the Little Tikes type.  This bed requires a “Bunkie board” to support the mattress and sells for around $500 online.  By the way, a bunkie board is used by most twin and captain beds and serves the same function as a box spring on larger beds.

In addition to the beds listed above, there are many other car bed models to choose from. Available from many retailers is the NASCAR Victory Lane bed, which is available in both twin and full size. The NASCAR bed includes several storage areas, and multiple matching accessories such as night stands, dressers and desks are available.

The furniture manufacturer “KidKraft” has created a fire truck bed/cot which sells for around $140 online. It is a standard twin size bed, and has “ladders” along the bed that also serve as safety rails for smaller children.
