Carbonite Online Backup provides a new facility called the remote file access feature. This feature will allow you to access your backups from anywhere you have access to a computer with an Internet connection. This feature should be available in mid-March. You can connect to the Cabonite site over a secure connection and retrieve the files you desire.
Over the last year this online backup solution has increased their value proposition by adding additional features such as a searchable restore drive.
Carbonite has also added the Carbonite for Mac offering. This offering for Mac user has the same unlimited backup space and the same price point. How does Carbonite Work? Carbonite Online Backup employs a collection of encryption methods, similar to the techniques used by large financial concerns. Prior to your information's departure from your PC, files are encrypted twice and then they are backed up to the server where they continue to be in the encrypted state. Additionally, the option for a user to provide his or her own encryption key is available.
Carbonite backs up all of the data in your Documents and Settings folder (called Users in Windows Vista), as well as documents, pictures, email and other data files from applications, such as tax programs, accounting software, etc. When you buy a subscription, music content is also added to the list of archive ready data. Programs, system files, temporary files, videos, or individual files larger than 4GB are not included in the starting backup. However, you can add any of these files to your Carbonite Online Backup manually whenever you wish.
