Caribou - Did you Know?

- Caribou is commonly called Reindeer especially in Scandinavian countries.

- Both sexes grow antlers, however, bulls grow much larger than cows.

- Hooves change texture in seasons. In the summer they are softer for the soft ground and in the winter they shrink, tighten and harden for the snow and ice.

- Main diet is lichens and reindeer moss, however, they will also eat willows, birch, sedges and grasses.

- Their migration is further than any other land terrestrial animal - upwards to 5,000 kilometers a year.

- Caribou comes from a french word that means snow-shoveler.

- In some areas of the world the reindeer's have been domesticated for work and transportation.
