How to Treat Dry Hair

Dry hair is a problem with millions if not billions in the world. Especially those of us that use chemicals and don't believe in maintenance.or just don't know what to do.

Firstly, let's understand one simple thing about hair. It has many layers! Not just one strand! Look at this microscopic view of hair. See that was simple, you now have a better understanding ot the structure of hair.

All Hair Is Not Created Equal

Secondly some hair just does not produce enough natural oils to maintain good health without help, such as African American hair. It takes approximately 1-2 weeks for oil gland to produce natural oils for hair.

This is why some hair does better being shampooed once or every two weeks, While others have to shampoo everyday for hair to be rid of excess oils.

Dry Scalp/Hair Treatments

  • Deep conditioner/Treatments applied with heat cap and plastic cap on medium heat for 10-20 minutes allows the many levels to be treated.

  • Oil Treatments are great for dry scalps and severely dry hair. Every two weeks for about 1 1/2 months should work great. This Free Itchy Scalp e-book has more helpful remedies you will find very beneficial to maintain beautiful , healthy  hair.
  • Skin antiseptic can be added to moisturizing shampoo and left on for 3-5 minutes to kill bacteria under the skin. You can use sea breeze or mouth antiseptic like Listerine. (Not Mouth Wash)
  • Tea tree shampoo or dandruff shampoo should be tried also until you know what the cause of your itchy skin. You can also drink more water to hydrate your body.
  • Alternate bi-weekly with a moisturizing conditioner. Use a plastic cap and warm Heat to help with penetration to the core of your hair.

Maintenance Trimming in like Pruning Plants

Trimming away dry damaged ends prevents the dryness from traveling up the hair shaft. Maintain hair by trimming every 6-8 weeks. Those of you with chemical should be trimmed during touch up to stay on schedule. The more regular you are the less of a trim you will need.Well groom hair is beautiful and sexy!

Who want straggly uneven hair just because one side grows longer?

Think of it like pruning your house plants. When your hair is properly maintained you will notice the hair having more length. This is because the hair is now not breaking faster than the hair is growing.

When hair is damaged the broken and split end travel up the hair shaft. People with dyed hair really notice this because of the color contrast. You end up with more new growth and less dyed hair because of the gradual breakage.

Damaged Dry Hair, Misunderstood

When hair is damaged and dry it does not hold a curl or style and makes the rest of the hair look lifeless. If it's been a while since you had a trim. It will end up becoming a cut because of the way the hair sheds up the shaft.

I suggest anyone that never had a trim or cut get it done then maintain it . Do not wait more than 2 mths at the most or you will have to deal with the dry straggly end and shedding again. Go condition and take care of your misunderstood hair.

You are definitely right about not all hair is created equal because I see so many women who go natural and when they try to use the same products that they see being used by other nappturals they are surprised to find they get different results. I have found one of the best ways to treat hair and scalp for dryness is taking Omega3 gel tablets, along with vitamin e and B12, wonderful soft results on natural hair.
