Carpet prices are quoted by how much square feet of carpet you need. If you are covering a room and aren't certain of how much square footage the room has, measure the length of the room by the width and multiple those two numbers together. Also when measuring it's best to round up your numbers. Any inches you end up with should be rounded up to the nearest foot. Typically a roll of carpet comes in no less than a twelve foot roll. You may want to keep that in mind when measuring. Prices will vary according to the material and style of carpet, the name on the label and the expected lifespan of the carpet. Carpet prices may also include any carpet removal and installation required.

Carpet Prices Will Vary

Influences On Carpet Prices

As with most things in life the quality of the carpet will reflect in the carpet price. Still, price is a big influence on what compels a person to buy a carpet to begin with. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for and even discount carpet prices can mean you are getting a cheap carpet. Discounted carpet is usually a sign of inferior quality and a desire to move it out the door as quickly as possible. This is especially the case when considering a discount carpet store. Low prices can mean the sales team is not very knowledgeable on the carpeting that is in their inventory. Their goal is to sell carpet, not info. They are not equipped to advise you professionally so they cannot charge high prices for their carpeting.

Carpet Installation

Carpet Installation Prices

Carpet installation prices can sometimes be factored into the cost of your carpet if the company offers installation services. While this may be a real convenience for you it is important to note that you do not have to use this service. It's best to look for the best deal possible as carpet install prices can be every bit as much as the carpet itself. Whenever selecting the service of any installer it is wise to get a list of references to check on prior to settling on any agreement. Carpet installation is a serious thing and if done poorly will cost in the long run when it needs to be redone. Call the references and ask about the experience they had and if they have had any trouble since. Another thing to ask for is if the installer is insured. This will cover anything that goes wrong during the installation.

Carpet Padding

Carpet Padding Prices

Another thing to consider in carpeting prices is padding. Don't fool yourself into thinking you do not need this. A carpet without padding is no better off than having an exposed hardwood floor. You are obviously installing carpet for a reason and it's probably for more than aesthetics. Installing without the padding will leave the carpet looking flat and it will feel uncomfortable to walk on. Carpet padding prices can sometimes be included in the cost of the carpet itself so it pays to ask about this. Sometimes you are not getting the best pad for the carpet but are getting the cheapest pad the store has to offer. Ask about their carpet pad prices and find out exactly which pad you are getting.

New Carpet Prices

Carpet made from synthetic materials is a petroleum based product so new carpet prices can easily be affected by the current going price of oil. Price per foot has increased dramatically in the past few years so it may be a good idea to shop around if you are going to install "new" carpet. A better route might be that discount carpet we talked about earlier if you can't find something new within your budget.

Let's take a look at some prices of carpet and see how they differ.

Berber carpet - This is a great style for heavy trafficked areas of your home. Berber carpets have a tight weave of fibers that are stain resistant and very resilient to premature wear. Great as an outdoor carpet, it is also good carpet for rental property and office space. Berber carpet prices will vary as the material used to make them can come from several different sources, such as wool, nylon and olefin. These will average about $7.50 per square foot or $23 per square yard.

Wool carpet - I can already see you sniffling from allergies. Wool makes a great natural product for carpets. It contains no harmful chemicals, it's eco-friendly, it uses natural pigments for coloring over chemical dyes, it uses hemp and cotton for its primary backing and it uses natural adhesive from rubber trees. If you aren't an allergy sufferer, then wool carpets are a good buy. Wool carpet prices can be expensive as wool is a natural product which means availability is limited. Prices can be upwards of $99 per square yard.

It's just a glimpse, but you can see how average carpet prices will vary from fabric to fabric, style to style. Below is a really quick video on how to choose carpets and get the best prices.
