Carpet shampoo is a cleaning solution used to remove stains and dirt from your carpet and rugs. Although vacuuming will pick up a lot of dust and dirt and will keep your carpet clean, it doesn’t give it a deep enough clean to remove all the dust and dirt particles that are embedded in your carpet fibres. Over time your carpet will develop a bad odour smell and a dirty look to it, that is why it is recommended that you have your carpet properly cleaned every 6 to 12 months to help preserve the life of your carpet. Using a carpet cleaning machine in conjunction with a good carpet shampoo solution not only provides a good deep clean but can also have your carpet looking as good as new.

One type of carpet shampoos come in the form of a handheld spray which is great for when you have an accidental spill and need to quickly clean it up before the stain dries into your carpet. A handheld spray like this is great for small areas and saves the need to purchase your own carpet shampooer. It is the quick and easy way of keeping your carpets clean and fresh without the aggravation of going through the whole carpet cleaning process.

Even though using a carpet stain remover spray is quick and effective at removing stains on the spot, you should still give your carpet a proper clean at least once a year. Think about all the dirt that gets brought in from outside throughout the year. Entrance mats and vacuuming can only do so much to keep your carpet clean.

The carpet is used by everyone, walking crawling, sitting and lying on it therefore for hygienic purposes you really need to keep your carpet clean. This means following basic carpet cleaning tips which include;  at least vacuuming once a week (maybe more depending on how many people and pets walk all over them), cleaning any spills and stains straight away before they dry and stain deep into the carpet, use entrance mats and cleans shoes before entering the house. These are basic steps that everyone should be doing.

Professional or Do it Yourself?

So once you decide to have your carpet shampooed how should you proceed? Well you need to decide if you will do it yourself or hire a professional carpet shampooer.
Professional carpet cleaning prices will vary depending on the size of your rooms you want done. You will most likely expect to pay at least $80 any less and you need to check any small print and ask why as there won’t be much profit to be made under this price. Be wary of any special offers and promotions and make sure you have a full understanding of what will be done and if there is any extra fees that may be added on.
If you decide to do it yourself which in the long run will most likely work out cheaper then you need to go out and buy a good carpet shampooer and some carpet shampoo solution.
There are numerous brands of shampoo to use, some will deal with tougher stains, some designed to combat pet odors.

It will be better to have the carpets cleaned after winter as more water and mud is left on your carpets during this season. Also having them cleaning during warming temperatures is better as the carpets can get a better natural airing out after you have cleaned them.

Move as much furniture from the carpet as possible as this will make cleaning it a lot quicker and if possible wait until the carpet dries until replace them.

No doubt once you have used your carpet cleaning machine with carpet shampoo, you will be very pleased with the results of what should look like a nearly new carpet.
