Moms can earn extra income using skills they already have

Mommy Means Biz

We are all noticing the rising price of oil, gasoline, and groceries- to only name a few. What does this mean for the average family household? It means we will have to do more with less. Or does it?

The number of families with a stay at home Mom is on the rise. Although this is a positive thing as far as the children are concerned, it can mean added stress on the weekly income in a negative way. How can families juggle the positive benefits of having Mom at home while offsetting the negative cash flow? It's simple, Mom can create her own cash flow!

I'm not referring to the millions of gimmicks out there that promise thousands to stay at home and stuff envelopes, process rebate checks, or who knows what else? I'm not even referring to any particular kind of business, actually. I have read all Lorel Langmeiers books and learned a lot about how to make "new" money. She stresses you should be able to get your idea up and running right away. Whatever your cash machine is, you do not have to make that a lifetime career. It can be something to just earn a little extra cash while your family needs it, or can turn into something much larger later on. I am also a huge fan of Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad- very motivational!

What I do know is that each of us has a unique talent that can be transformed into a cash machine for our families. I'll tell you about mine in a future correspondence, but for now let's focus on you. The first step will be to list on a sheet of lined paper exactly what you perceive some of your talents to be. They don't have to be talents that you have had while performing paid employment. Talents such as baking, sewing, or singing can be considered cash machine talents. I'll explain in detail a little bit later.

Once you have listed at least 10-20 solid talents you can start to analyze your list to see if you can begin to form any potential home businesses. I will share some examples of gals I have worked with.

A young lady came to my group with some jewelry that she had beaded herself. It was nice, and it wasn't overly fancy. More importantly, it was simple to make she told me. The process only required a few basic tools and some special wire and beads. All of which could be picked up easily at the local craft store.

Her dilemma was that although she could make this jewelry rather inexpensively and quickly, she wasn't really selling many pieces. She made mostly earrings and necklaces. We listed her other talents and it turns out that she could host birthday parties for girls the same age as her daughter, then 9, and spend an hour teaching them how to make their own bracelets. It was a huge success!

Mommy Means Biz Ideas

  1. Birthday Parties- Planners, Classes, Theme Boxes, Goody Bags.
  2. Tutoring- You could tutor yourself or hire some other tutors.
  3. Home Parties- This can be something that you put together yourself, such as purses, baskets, lingerie, toys- or anything else ladies get together to buy!
  4. Popcorn, pies, cookies, sandwiches, salads (when in season you could even grow your own fresh vegetables), or home style dinners.
  5. Jewelry making or sales of jewelry. How about organizing some local makers to make jewelry just for you?
  6. Used books. Children's books to extremely well, even on ebay.
  7. T-Shirt sales-especially for local sports teams. You can now photo or design something on the computer and print out onto special transfer paper & iron.
  8. Dog treats- people love their pets! I have a recipe, but I'm sure there are others.
  9. Overnight pet sitting for cats. I am nervous around kids and dogs, but you decide.
  10. Typing manuscripts at home. You could even create your own short stories.

The above are some ideas to get you started. Depending on your talents you may be able to make your own list. It will be important to socially network with other moms or potential clients to keep your business growing.

When you sign up for my newsletter you will also receive an expanded list of ideas. I will share with you some success stories of other ladies who have done just what you are doing now and some words of advice from them as well.

It's important to keep a networking circle of other mother entrepreneurs to help keep you motivated and to share ideas and solutions. Some times things can get stagnant if we don't keep the momentum. Momentum is something I have committed an entire report to as it is probably the most important thing to remember about keeping your business moving forward. Once that momentum gets interrupted it is much harder to pick it back up. Some really great business ideas have been put to bed prematurely because they failed to keep the momentum going. This is entirely avoidable. My website will soon feature a forum area for those Mommy Means Biz money makers to hold discussions on topics they feel are important.

Please feel free to email me at Mommymeansbiz@verizon.net to get on my free newsletter and learn new ideas.

Remember to sign up for my newsletter so you can get the next report in my series, complete with some advanced ideas to boost your income potential. I will share some valuable secrets that could launch your new biz to the next level immediately that take very little effort on your part.

Don't wait, this economy may not see better days for some time. The more prepared you are going into it, the better off your family will be as well!
