The Caster Board

If you’re looking for a unique gift this year for an active child then check out the line of available Caster Boards.  The caster board, or RipStik, is a two wheeled human propelled device that is similar to a skateboard.  The board itself is actually two small platforms called decks that are connected in the middle by an aluminum or rubber coating.

RipStick

Once the rider pushes off, the two wheels are mounted in a way that allows the rider to gain momentum without ever having to step off like they would have to on a skateboard.  Some riders have suggested that riding a RipStik is much more like riding a surfboard than a skateboard because of the stance and the way you have to move the hips to control the board movements.

Learning to gain balance and pushing off to begin movement takes a bit of practice but the basics can be mastered in a day or two.  Stopping the board is only a matter of stepping off.  Since the board is designed in a way that it cannot continue moving unless the rider keeps it balanced once the rider steps off the board it will just fall over, unlike a skateboard which will continue on with its momentum.

It is always recommended to wear proper safety equipment such as a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, gloves and shin guards, especially when just starting out.  Wearing proper safety equipment will reduce the worry of any minor injuries that may result from falling.  Rest assured, falling is all part of the experience.  In time and with experience, the falls and tumbles will be few and in between.

Caster boards are not toys, they are highly engineered sports equipment that will challenge a riders athleticism, endurance, and skill.  Once mastered, the rider will not want to go back to using a skateboard.
