My soul-mate, precious Bon Ami, just turned 19--peaople years. she was playing, jumping up on tables, eating, loving me, one day, and the next, she was many pounds lighter, dehydrated, and weak. Once in the hospital, her depression prevented healing, and as I held her in my arms, and kissed her, shewas put to sleep and is waiting for me at The Rainbow Bridgs. That was on December 18, 2006. I fed her Evolve.... not a recall food, but a food said to be all organic and without by-products. The vet said it was her age, but I know that had i been aware of the symptoms of kidney failure, she'd be with me today. Plasen don't hesitate to have your elder cat's blood taken once a year... and check his or her kidneys. It's not cureable, but there is treatments which will give your furry friend a longer, quality life. PS. My pooch, Shaggy eatch Flint River Lamb and my mom's Peakingease eats Canned InnovaEvo. I have always spent a lot more on my kidd-ty's food/doggy food, but in the long run, it's worth the expense.

Alladin.... he was so friendly. Every morning i would open my door and he would be there waiting for me to wake up. New people got nervous at first when they found out that he still had his claws, but he was so sweet, he would never use them. he was so loveable. i really don't know what i'm going to do without seeing him every morning from now on, knowing he's never returning! love you little boy!
Marty, blue front himilayian persian, 17 years old. we switched from Iams dry food to the Iams beef and gravy about 12 months ago. I am having a hard time believing that he probably lived a long time due to eating only Iams dry food, and then he eats the wet food and dies from it. Although he was old, he was not sick at all. He started to not eat and was sleeping quite a bit, and then he just went in his sleep. I thought he caught a bug and was not feeling well, low and behold we find out about this. This has to be one of the worst things to happen in a long time. I want to pursue this further, please help.

Horton was almost 11 years old. He was put to sleep 2 weeks ago because of kidney failure. I've had him since he was a little kitty furball. I was feeding him canned Purina Friskies and Iams 9 lives since Fall '04. He refused to eat crunchy food, which I even tried softening in water- still wouldn't eat that. It hurts me so much to know I killed him simply by feeding him. I would never intentionally do such a thing. I miss you Horton and I'm so sorry this happened. I hope you're full of happiness and energy up in kitty heaven. : (

My cat was just diagnosed with kidney failure because of the cat food. If she doesnt take to the treatment, she'll die. The news reports that only 15 cats have died so far from this. I personally know 3 people whos cats are dying and 1 who already lost their cat. Someone is gonna pay for this.

I am a 5 yr old cat and my name is "Casper". I have been sick since mid Dec. I have lost 7 lbs over the last 3 months and been to 5 different Vets. I have had many tests done and still they do not know what is wrong with me. The last Vet gave me some awful medication but, I don't think the medicine is working. I do not have the energy to groom myself these days and I try to use my litter box but, I don't always make it. My legs aren't what they used to be, I try to walk but I just fall over. I am sad. I would like to play again, it has been so long since I have played. I am not giving up because my Mom tells me I will be OK and she loves me. I heard on TV that my "cuts and gravy" meals were contaminated with rat poison so now I wonder if I will be Ok?
My 18 yr. old Manx cat, BUMPER, is in renal failure. She was missing, we looked and looked, and then heard her under the house 4 days later. She was in a coma for 9 days and on IVs continually. She woke up yesterday, she can't walk yet, I am making her homemade wet food, I have found a site with lots of recipes. I don't know how long she will survive, but I can't put her down when she is making an effort to live! Our vet bills are reaching $950 now. She was eating Nutro, Iams and Fancy Feast. I was killing her and I didn't know it. I am so sadden by all of this.
15 year old cat that I've had since third grade...jumping up and down, running around the house, more fiesty than the younger cats in the family gets sick on wednesday, stops eating, and from entering the vet on Friday, frothing at the mouth, going from 7.5 pounds to 3.5 pounds and dying on Sunday. my cat zoey had to put to sleep on sunday due to eating special kitty wet pouches he had kidney failure and it was four times higher than what it was suppose to be and he had oral ulcers in his mouth. He wasn't feeling very well last week and he was laying around wasn't eating or drinking looking at me closing his eyes and then opening them and they were watering like he was saying help me just not by words. I have a 10 year old cat, her name is jasmine..the URL is a picture of her, I feed her whiskas seafood wet pouches, and hill science percription diet food (wd). So far she has been acting totally fine. Shes been playing, grooming herself, and acting spoild as always. I have had her since I was 12, and if she died earlier than shes supposed to because careless people messed up, Im going to be highly upset and pissed. I never have bought Iams catfood after I saw an article on peta.com. There they showed and said that IAMS has lab testing of HEALTHY animals.. animals in which have to suffer in order to get their products right and out there. I was upset to see all those videos of people being cruel to animals, it made me cry. I will NEVER buy Iams food products for my cat and future animals!!! animals shouldnt have to go through such things! they are innocent!

My 5 year old cat Bellamy, and my 14 year old dog, Hyde, died peacefully by vet put down on March 26th 2007. They both had major kidney failures and were put down before they died of there pain. Bellamy was a beatiful orange and white maine coon and he was the most loveable cat. He got ill 2 weeks before the new year and conatined his illness until now. The vet was amazed that he had not passed in such time. He did not live his full life and its hard to take. His last moment with me has wanting a scratch when i was eating breakfast, then 3 hours later he could not urinate and was quickly dying. He was my Only favourite cat and I will miss everything about him. I know that u'll always be with me wherever i go. Hyde was also a beautiful cross between a german shepard and a collie. She was an elderly dog with lots of energy and happiness. She had already survived hip surgergy which was a near death experience. Ive been with her since i was a little boy. She is my favourite dog. Since she was affected by the food, it was a struggle to walk her. The day she died i walked her in the morning for the final time and she couldnt get up anymore. Losing two of your pets un-naturally causes huge pain to me and my family. We fed my cat the special kitty meet pouches and my dog ol' roy and some other cat food. They are both best freinds and relatives to my family and will greatly be missed in heaven. R.I.P Bellamy and Hyde Taylor

My cat Smokey had to be put down on March 1,2007. I bought him Iams canned food for the first time on Dec. 30,2006. I saw a picture of a cat that looked just like him on the can and thought I'd see if he liked it. I may as well have given him the rat poision myself. It just kills me every time I think of what I did to my beloved cat. He had severe kidney failure. He was an active cat in January but quickly began to go down hill and completely stopped eating at all in late Feburary. It would probably have been sooner but I would mix up the food I fed him. Some days it was Iams and another day it was Fancy Feast. Had I only known maybe he would still be with me today. He was 13 years old. I Love You Smokey. Mama

My beloved Piddah died just before the recall. He was with me for almost 16 years. Special Kitty was one of his favorites. I still turn around and expect to see this furry bundle of love looking to get his ears scratched.
Our bluepoint siamese, greta, whom we had from the minute she was born was put down the last week in january. this occurred before the recall, but we still have left over cans which do indeed have the recalled numbers on them. everyone was puzzled as to "why she went into complete kidney failure" and deteriorated to the point death almost overnight. i am just waitng for proctor and gamble to tell me she wasn't worth much because she was almost 13 years old. my vet submitted all of greta's records...it is friday and they were supposed to call on tuesday. they still haven't called. i would like to set up a fund that would help defray the vet bills for people who are having a hard time finanacially affording the mounting vet bills. i will help and do whatever it takes to pass legislation due to this devastation. there is nothing more painful right now than knowing i was poisoning my cat every time i fed her. randi
My beloved kitty Joyful died in January. I fed her Special Kitty because she liked the gravy and Iams. I had switched to the wet food around November and she got drastically sicker in December. She died of Kidney failure. I feel that I contributed to her death by feeding her the canned food. She was such a precious and loving kitty. Our Kitty Happy Frank was only 3.5 years old. He went to Kitty Heaven on March 13th after suffering from kidney failure. The doctor said that in all her years as a vet, this was the first time she has ever seen a cat so young dying of kidney failure and as a vet, couldn't explain why. She said it doesn't normally happen to healthy indoor cats. We now know it was from the food. We actually bought the wet food to give our other cat his medicine but our older cat refused to eat it and the younger one liked it. My 7 year old son was best friends with our cat and cried every night for a week when it was time for bed. He misses him so much. We all do.
We lost Nike Kitty 1 week ago. I am in the process of looking into his death being del monte reasures me it wasn't on their end. He was a good cat and is missed.
Felix, age 6, exclusively indoor cat, became ill 3/19, kidney failure, iv fluid, meds, at vet 3 days, returned home for weekend for observation. Euthanized 3/23financial cost exceeding $350emotional cost to us and our daughter: immeasurable.
The thought that I killed him with this food that was to sustain him sickens me. What if this were in the human food supply??
Felix (the cat) didn’t know that he wasn’t a dog. He’d ride our border collie like a pony, sleep with the dogs in one lump. He would stretch his entire self out and get a belly rub and fall asleep while fully extended in your lap. He had the grace of an elephant. Felix was a tiny little kitten that showed up in our driveway.We miss him terribly, knowing there will be no other like him.
My best friend for the past 15 years is gone and the void he has left has broken my heart more than I could ever possibly have imagined. My wife is the same. To hear he might have been poisoned by Prescription Blend dry cat food (which seemed to have changed color oddly in the apst four months) is unbearable. Sadly, always missed MITTENS three weeks ago after sudden kidney failure.
We just lost our lovable Tinkerbell, a gray tabby yesterday. She quit eating and went into kidney failure. My daughter is devastated. She had raised her from a kitten just 2 weeks old. She went in 5 days and no vet could save her. She died in my daughters arms. My daughter is 17 and really loved that cat as she was so tiny and loving. Now we are closely watching Binx and our 5 dogs...This is an outrage for animal lovers to have to go through and deal with.

kitty baby- this was our beloved 11 year old beauty. I really thought he would be around for his 20th birthday. All I had to do was feed him right. Well I guess not, huh? We miss him. Our son is developmentally disabled, and this was his friend, when other kids would pick on him and throw things at him, he would come in and there would be his faithful Baby. When I sat to read, there would be kitty baby. How could they know about this problem for a month before recalling food. It was during that month that Baby got sick and had to be put to sleep. Our son read his bible to Baby on the way to the vet. Many tears were shed, as he had to leave his friend behind that day. It broke our hearts to say goodbye.
My beloved Winston was only 6 when he died of CRF in Dec. The vets were so surprised that a young indoor cat fell ill so fast with renal failure. I fed him mostly fancy feast which is made by Nestle Purina. They have not recalled this brand yet, but I fed him the sliced beef turkey and chicken in gravy style. Coincidence? I dont think so. My heart is still broken. I miss my little baby every day still. may the cat food manufactuers who killed out pets suffer just as the furry babies we entrusted to them did. Please dont feed your pets Purina Fancy feast. I trly suspect this product fatally poisoned my dear sweet cat.
My little Giada passed away at 2:15 this morning.It is now 3:15 and i cant sleep. She suffered in her last hours of life all because i switched from 9lives to special kitty just once. I'll have to live with this the rest of my life, she was just a year old. So far i am lucky my 2yr old jackson has not show any signs of a problem.He only eats dry cat food.

...please list ALL symptoms, I think the problem is bigger than we've been led to believe... my previously healthy cat, Luna, had been eating Presidents Choice tuna pouches, half a pack a day, as well as dry food, 2 days ago we noticed the following symptoms: not using her litter box, blood in her stool, lethargic, unplayful, won't run up and down stairs, trouble with hind legs, timid, easily spooked, loss of appetite, licking her lips. The vet said her blood work and kidneys are fine, but something else is definately wrong here??

My cat cloe' died of kidney failure just about a month ago, I had to have her put to sleep and it was possibly the hardest thing I've ever had to do. She only suffered for a about a week that I could really tell. It was such a shock to loose such a big part of my life so suddenly. She will be missed greatly.....All Cats go to heaven!

I love my 2 cats and dog, and have not feed them any food on the recall lists. But, should I have done so it would have been an accident. I know the companies did not add anything dangerous to their products on purpose. Why sue them? Take that money you will give to the lawyers and help your local pound save more animals. Your pet can not be replaced, but they can give life to others.....

First of all, let me say that I am so very sorry for all of the suffering and everyone's loss. If he/she were my pet, I'd be in the mental hospital, because it would tear me up that badly. I don't know how some of you are getting through this mess!!!
Post #28 mentions finding a website (but doesn't give site address) that offers recipies for home-made wet pet food. After reading everyone's posts here (while going throught a box of tissue) I have searched for and visited several of those sites for "Make Your Own Pet Food". The recipies seem fairly simple, and nutricious. I am listing the web addresses for these sites below, and I dearly hope all of you pet owners/parents/friends out there will take the time to look over the recipies and decide whether it's a feasible alternative to store-bought pet food, until this crisis is over.
My prayers are with all of the pets out there that are fighting for their lives, and for the pets who have not suscome to this awful illness. I hope they never go through any of this.

My cats became sick after eating Fncy Feast Elegant Medley Chicken Floretine, they refused to eat not even lunch meat their favorite, projectile vomiting, gagging and drooling lot of lip licking like something ws stuck in their throat, had blood work and scope done on the one having more severe symptoms this cat also eats Hills C/D the other does not, test came back with in normal limits vet baffled by symptoms....I not I remove all these foods from their diet feed pple food for rest of week and then found Merrick cat food which is one of the few not made by Menu foods see to be improving still watching like a hawk. Please beware>>>.
Thunder died on Dec. 20, 2006 - Special Kitty killed him.

On december 5th I lost My Baby Wilber...Im 16 and Ive had him since i was 7..I fed him speical Kitty..He would always wait for me when I was in the hospital..I fed Him speical kitty on december 3rd-4th He went to the vet late on the 4th They said he had Kidney failure.. I brought him home and planced him Under the x-mas tree..at 6:34am i woke up he was laying next to me..He was lifeless...I picked him up and went by my dad and told Wilber that he could go see the angels now..He waved goodbye..And than he passed after words...I Fed him the cat food Its my fault He died..I didnt know Untill the recall happend..The vet said Most likely thats why he died Cause he was a heathly Kitty..He protected me from the storms..He layed with me at night when i was sick..Now Tell me whos gonna be waitting for me when i get back from hospitals? Stryper was 19 and in good health. The morning I left for work she was up and eating her can food. That afternoon my husband got home before me and found her under the bed crying. My other cat was with her. She was in intense pain. We quickly called our vet and took her in. By the time we arrived I did not want him to examine her because she was in such pain. I just wanted it to stop. So we had her put down. This was on February 21, 2007. I did not know of the pet food problem until March 19th. I thought we were clear after reading the list that day but now I am so sure. Wheat gluten is in the 9 lives can that I am still feeding my other 3 cats. I am sure Stryper had eaten that kind too. I do not know what to do next. I can not find much support on the internet other than your article. Every time I feed them, I am scared I'm killing them.

My cat, Miss Kitty, started acting strange about 6 months ago. She would cry and cry. I took her to the vet and they ran some bloodwork but nothing serious was found. I knew something was wrong. She started drinking more and more water and would defecate outside the litter box. Then 2 months ago I noticed that she would not eat or drink. I rushed her to the vet and they told me she was in advanced kidney failure. I was in shock. I fed her Presription Diet w/d but once in awhile would give her other brands to mix it up. Two of them was Eukanuba and Wellness. She is now on daily IV treatment and eating Prescripton Diet k/d wet food. She is completely incontinent but still eats and drinks. I am so upset thinking that the food I fed made her ill. She looks at me sadly and I do not have the heart to put her down. I know kidney disease is irreversible so she is not going to get better. She doesn't like the needles from the IV treatment and it is getting harder and harder to find places on her body to stick the needle in since they start to develop scar tissue. I know her days are numbered so I try to treasure every moment with her while I still can.

You really must give this animal who has given you so much love, her peace. When we take on the responsibility of being a pet owner, or an animal lover at that, we have to take on another responsibility - a promise that we will not allow them to linger and suffer in a terminal situation. That we will love them enough to let them go from pain and misery, even though it will be so very difficult for us.
If your beloved pet is experiencing anything like so many of the patients that I have seen suffer from kidney failure, she has little or no more quality of life left. I know it's hard. I have had to face up to the terrible responsibility of euthanizing a much loved pet more than a time or two. It has always come down to one question for me. When I start to wonder what the reason is that I am putting off my responsibility to a pet that is very ill with no possibility of improvement in their condition. A pet that is obviously ill and feeling horribly so. I wonder if I'm putting it off for the sake of my pet, or for my own sake. It's always what tells me that it's time, whether I like it or not. I never do.
The stress that daily IV treatments is causing to your friend must be nightmarish for her in terms of anticipation. She has no concept of why you are allowing this is being done to her on a daily basis. She doesn't like it because it hurts and it makes her feel awful. Really awful. She is so ill. She is in a great deal of pain and discomfort. You can't do anything to help her, and I know how frustrating that is. I know you don't want to let her go. I really do understand how hard it is. But you can't let her suffer anymore. If she could tell you, she would. She is your friend. She has given you so much. Give her peace. Please think about it. When I think of what this poor animal is going through it makes me want to cry for her.

We had to put my cat of 16 years to rest becuase I fed her Special Kitty. She suffered alot. I wanted to give her some of her dignity back. No living being should have to suffer as these poor animals did. I will miss my cat alot. A part of my heart is missing now.

My feline angel, Fred, died in my arms. His pure white fur wet from my tears. His big double paws wrapped around my arm. His breath getting shallower until there was no more life in him. He ate the canned food my other cats wouldn't touch. It killed him. I hope he's forgiven me but I haven't forgiven them! Maybe someday I won't cry when I think of him and how he suffered, but it won't be anytime soon.
The pet food recall continues to expand. Del Monte yesterday and Sunshine Mills today. I have a bag of Special Kitty that is made by Sunshine Mills that is going back to Wal-mart. Purina claims their products are safe. I will only buy Purina right now. The FDA knew that this bad wheat Gluten was in the dry food supply. It seems to me that the FDA is more worried about the corporations then our pets. Please use your best judgement when selecting food.

MacArthur, our wonderful 18 year old Himilayian was put to sleep on April 5, 2007. He was always a healthy cat but all of a sudden lost weight and began to sleep a lot. Most of the food he ate was not on the recall list but the do have the wheat gluten in the ingrediants on some of the cans of 9 lives, whiskas and meow mix. I am devistated to think that I might have caused his problem and wonder what to feed my remaining black persian..............................So hard to lose such a great companion................
Just an FYI 2 cans into a new case of Fancy Feast gravy elegant medley chicken florentine my cat became very ill (3/23/07)foaming at mouth projectile vomiting very skittish and distance, within 24 hours my other cat had less server symptoms but similar lot of lip licking not wanting eat gagging. Stop the food both seem to be doing better youngest cat had blood work and scope w/ biopsy all came back normal baffled vet, convinced it was food vet feels the same and now they both need blood work done again in 2 weeks to makes sure no permanent damage was done to their kidneys. Last July both became ill youngest bloody stool and liquid feces and crystals in urine other violent yellow foam vomiting, they were eating IAMs wt control and hairball form mixed and fancy feast fish with ASPIC and tuna with gravy( the oldest could keep down the savory salmon FF which does not have gravy) if you notice ASPIC disappeared off shelves vet told me the older one had developed sensitive stomach and the young one just needed SC C/D. Could not give any really answers of symptoms now I know it was the foods they were eating. YIKES. Will let you know how their blood work comes back . Please stay clear of anything even if not on list that has wheat gluten that FF is still not recalled and my have ruined my cats kidneys forever all because they say it is safe. Using Merrick wet food only ones with no gravy, even though it does not list wheat gluten have heard organic doesn't have to list stuff used in small quantities, trying to find a dry not associated with Menu foods, Diamond or Purina, the only thing I can come up with is Felidae...anyone have any comments on its safety.
Rusty Cat became ill & couldn't walk, w/ vomiting, bloody urine, 2 weeks ago. Vet thinks he has liver jaundice & dehydration, but he looks like all the symptoms of cat food poisoning. Antibiotics & baby food are keeping him alive so far. Feeding him thru a syringe; won't feed himself. I won't give up on him! Love that cat.

I went to my daughters apartment to find her crying and crying. She found her beloved long hair pursian on the floor. She took it to the vet, but it couldn't be saved. I tryed to comfort her as I sat in the room filled with her cats pictures and toys. I cryed with her. My mother also found her border collie on the floor the same as my daughters cat. I have 2 dogs and a cat throwing up and not wanting to eat. It saddens me to think that we tryed to do our best for our family and pets only to find we were unaware of what we were feeding them.

I am so sick over this how could it of ever happened? In-excusable!! My heart goes out to all of you. I have been cooking for 10 dogs,5 cats 4 of them belong to my daughter & son, but here's a thought; why dont we all cook for our baby's and maybe they'll get it and start making quality food for our pets!! What they charge for their unsafe, horrible filler food & by-product digest ---- and we pay for it. If we all cooked right now theyd be safe and all the manufacturer's WILL make better food. My cousin might not make it through all this as her 2 cats are her life.
I wouldn’t trust any food made by Menu Foods or any food that contains wheat gluten. I read somewhere that another company bought the tainted wheat gluten, but was staying confidential. That scares me becase we had been feeding our cats Friskies canned and Special Kitty dry and I have read where that has killed cats. I have done a lot of research and found out that FIRST OF ALL there are not just 15 cats that have died, it is more in the thousands of both cats and dogs that have died. The fifteen reported cats were just menu foods test cats. They are trying to make this look more small scale than it is.

Lots of people think they are safe because their food wasn’t recalled but I have read reports all over the net where cats and dogs have died from foods that weren’t recalled that contained wheat gluten.
Tigger, 11 years old was put too sleep last Monday, April2. I fed him Iams, The serial numbers i fed him were just added to the Iams list on April 5...Tigger disappeared for a few days, and was very bad off by the time I got him to the vet...Poor guy....Doctor said kidney failrure.....his lab results were the worst the vet had seen......very, very sad.

I am sorry for the losses.....two weeks before the recall, i tried to feed my cats Iams (flakes with tuna & ocean white fish in sauce) and they would not eat it. I knew there was something wrong right away because my cats will eat anything. I was thankful because someone was watching....
My cat was on Prescription Hills C/D and last week had to be put asleep secondary to complications from liver failure, pancreatitis and irritable bowel (ulcer). The vet doesn't believe that it is related, but after researching more into the ingredients in the food I question that. One of the main ingredient is corn gluten (a cheap way to give protein), and preserved with BHT and BHA which is no longer available to humans because it was found to be a carcinogen. I wish I had been more educated before she passed. Maybe it would have made a difference. Maybe not, but I would have known I did the best for her. It pays to do research when It comes to our pets.

Kiki, an otherwise healthy 4-year old male, died of renal failure. We gave him Special Kitty Treats. He was a 50-50 indoor/outdoor cat, and all the neighbors loved him - and fed him. No doubt he was given other contaminated food by folks who were, like us, unaware. He can never be replaced, of course, but I would like to be reimbursed for our vet bills!

I fed my Sonny special Kitty for years he would not eat dry food. My son & I noticed the day after I bought him a new batch of food from Wal-Mart on 2/26/07. He was bleeding from the mouth & had a terrible oder to it. I checked him over carefully & he had no puncture wounds or anything that would indacate that he got into anything. I keep on hand antibiotics for for him & my dogs for any such problem small enough I could treat at home. I breed my dogs & Sonny was my one and only beautiful cat. I had him for 10 years and he was the oldest of our furry children. Which is how we treat all of babies. I had 6 antibiotics on hand and started giving them to him right away.He started to act as if he was getting better started to eat & drink again so I thoght he was well on his way to recovery and he would be fine. I gave him the 6st antibiotic on the 7th of March so I continued to feed him the special kitty. On the 8th of March my daughter had to have surgery to repair her ankle. My son came to me and ask to step out of the room from where I was getting my daughter comfortable from just getting home the hospital to avoid upsetting his sister and to inform me that we had lost Sonny while we were at the hospital that day. It was not until April 1st that we figured out that it was the food that we had been feeding him for years that had taken him from us. It angers me to see commercials after commercials that the pet food companies spend millions of dollars each year telling us how thier food can prolong are furry family members life if we feed them thier food AND THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT TOOK MY BABY FROM ME. And now they are just a piece of property.It sickens Me. I can't be in my kitchen or anywhere in my home without seeing and thinking of him daily. I miss him and I'll never be able to hold him again because of the same people that said thier food and proper care he could live a long and happy life and for a cat that could be 20 to 25 years. I feel the loss that all of you are going through. My thoughts are with you.

My baby "Boo", age seven, died before the recall from kidney failure. She endured 2 weeks of vet visits with lab test finding nothing wrong. When she took a turn for the worse, I left her at the vet overnight for observastion and an IV to help rehydrate her. Early the next morning, I rushed to see her, but I did not get to say goodbye because she died 2 minutes before I arrived. I know that she felt I'd abandoned her and just gave up. I loved her so much and miss her everday.
The saddest thing is that my other beloved kitty, eight year old "Arena" is showing symptoms of the same poisoning. She is drooling, acting very tired, having accidents outside the litter box, licking her lips, gagging at smell of food, and vomiting. I feel so sorry for her because the vet thinks that her food my have been contaminated, but the food she eats has not been recalled yet. She ate Meow Mix, made by Purina. It is a dry cat food, but everday there are more and more pet foods added to the recall list. I am feeding her tuna for now and she seems a little better. I hope my baby makes it through this. Everyone that has suffered form this injustice is in my prayers.
I just found out my chloe of 5 years and buddy of 3 years have been eating nutromax that has been recalled. I have an appointment tomorow at the vet. I am soo scared they will be sick. They are my babies. I pray we will all get through this.,
My little girl of 15 years, The Watch Kitty, died of kidney failure on March 28th. Eukanuba was the documented poison. She started getting sick in January, '07 diognosed on Feburary 6th and gone in March. She was my world! I will never be the same without her. We tried everything to prolong her life with comfort but she started eating less, tried every soft natural food on the shelves, even baby food which she liked. It was a painful process to watch this active cat of a couple months previous fade to a shadow of her former self. I wanted to add that I am seeing a lot of the same things in the different accounts. I went as far as consulting the services of askariel a pet nutricionist at UC Davis and bought a number of her products for sustaining kidney health. Unfortunately at the same time I was going through this and Baytril and fluids at the Vets office the B.U.N. kept going up? Reason, I was feeding her Eukanuba Chicken and Gravy packets (this was in late Feburary before Menu made the announcement). She never seemed to like it that well just lapped up some of the gravy. When the recalls were announced I turned white and screamed and cryed at the same time when I realized what was going on. My little girl use to have a cute grunt, it turned to a faint squeak (cry for help) her coat seemed to get moist and matted, drank water all the time, spit up the white toxin fluids every few days, ate hard food (what little she now ate) (this was a kitty that cleaned up a 10 lb bag of Hills R/d every 2 months)with her head cocked sideways, lost a couple claws, a couple claws would now not retract? habits changed, seemed distant. I don't think she even slept the last two weeks, held her head up while lying down and stared forward (she use to snore and move her legs in her sleep she slept so well. I would lay on my back with my right arm around her most of the night. She was always under a Vets care, same Vet for 10 years and went on an IV Monday 3-26 till 3-28 when she had I'm told a viscious siezure and was held by a caring tech as she passed away. 15 years we had so much fun together. I have a case number with P&G and am listed in a class action with a firm in Sacramento, Ca. I'm just sick, I intend to donate any and all proceeds to an animal no kill shelter in her name... TK
My wife and i lost our friend Squall on suday night. She had battled with this problem before. we took her to the vet and had all the tests done and for two years she was doing fine. we now beleive this has been going on for years. we loved our squall she was part of our little family.she and her sister were the best friends , loving , freindly, and always there to show us affection. our squall will be remembered and a great part of our family. it breaks my heart that she has died ... she was grey and white with a lighting bolt accross her face. we loved her so much. she was taken from us far to soon. this problem with the tainted food i swear goes back for years, they are just finding out about it now. the symptoms described are the exact same. we never had any idea it was the food because her sister ate the same right beside her. i thin they have been poisoning our friends for years. i remember two years ago when we first took her to the vet... after all the tests there was nothing to be found . my wife is a nurse and could understand the blood work tests.. she was having kidney problems and very severely anemic. please don't let let this happened again. i thin k the problem is cumulative and at a point it just takes over. this may have killed thousads of our friends and it was just caulked up to kidey failure. this is for squall and all the other animals that may have died because of this. we jsut want her to know mom and dad love her very much an dher sister loves her very much

Val, In my case it was Eukanuba chicken and gravy also Eukanuba beef and gravy the 3 oz. wet packets, "morsels in gravy", says it will give your cat a shiner coat and healthy skin. Also says "Guaranteed your cat will love it". Ought to feed this stuff to those that forgot the quality control step and are killing our pets...I still have some of the packets, holding onto for the lawsuit. There will never be a Eukanuba anything in my animals future. I wish you the best..
My cat Xena, was six years old about to be seven in a week before he had to be put down. He was my baby...He was raised on baby food and then purina products..and liked the garden greens products that they recently offered. He also had his favorite treats...the last one he got was Purina Whisker Lickins...about 3 days after he ate almost one bag..he stopped eating and couldn't urinate..took him to the Vets..they wanted to put him down right then but I couldn't do it..took him home for 3 more days and then had to take him in to be put to sleep..It killed us..andI am still upset..Don't believe them...don't feed your cat purina anything..especially the canned food with the garden greens..which he ate every night or anyof the treats..between the wheat gluten and the rice protein..they are killing our babies...I will never forgive them and will not buy any animal products from anyone ever. I will (if I ever get another cat) make his food myself. Isn't it amazing that even now they are only claiming a few animal deaths! What liars they all are...I am sorry to sound so bitter...but there it is!
Our beloved CC just passed. She was a beautiful Ragdoll, we thought she had ear mites but turned out she has an allergy to tuna. So it was a chicken diet for her along with our other 2 cats that way CC didn't feel like she was being punished having to eat chicken. Our other 2 cats are her kittens from previous liters. I bought Iams, Friskies and I have always given them 9-lives but none were cuts of meat with gravy. Our other 2 cats would not eat the Iams cat food at all but CC loved to eat and she would eat hers, theirs and still look at you for more licking her lips. CC loved to eat, play and she loved being out on the screened in porch. She started getting better; her ears were clearing up and she was growing her hair back. Then she started getting other symptoms but we didn't think it had anything to do with the recalled cat food. She started sleeping more, drinking more and then urinating problems, she couldn't make it to the liter box, where ever she was is where she went. We called the vet and couldn't get her an appointment right away. She didn't make it to her vet appointment; she died in her sleep in her kitty hut. I contacted the vet and they said it sounds like she has eaten some of the recalled food. So with that said, I don't think it is just the cuts of meat with gravy. I am now very cautious on what I feed my other two cats, her babies. I don't think I could handle it if they were to go also. CC was going to be 6 years old this June. She is in Kitty heaven now playing and eating all she wants but doesn't have to worry about getting sick. CC is going to be very much missed by me and my husband. I will miss the nosey kisses for treats and she was his alarm clock when he didn't hit the snooze button fast enough. We love and miss you CC.
I am the lady in the pic that Susan used. I want to tell everyone my baby's name was RouxRoux, pronunced RooRoo. She was a hugger and was with me all the time. I miss her so much ! She was a gift from God for sure!!! She loved her Special Kitty so much and I had just bought it at Walmart because it was not on the list and I thought I was being safe. I am so upset at WalMart and the company that did this to my baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My thoughts go out to all others that are going through this too !!! Hugs to all !!!

A rare and true friend. The light of my life. Never a bother , never a burden. Found abandoned and lost on a hot July afternoon. Loved by me and many others. He gave joy and love to all who knew him. My sweet Baboo. Never forgotten.
We lost our cat; "Olifur", two weeks ago. My daughter came screaming around 10:30 at night, "Something is wrong with Olifur, he is making scarry noises and twisting on the ground." I ran upstairs and held him just as he died. I never liked cats, but this guy stole all of our hearts for four years. He was part of our family. My wife, two kids, and myself stayed up the rest of the night crying. I still look for him every morning.
My sweet Boo died of acute kidney failure at age 9. Blood work in the fall was normal. He was poisoned by MD dry food. One day after the recall he quit eating and his kidneys were already gone (very high numbers). We struggled with fluids and treatment for a week but he could not eat. I miss him every day. The other two cats are OK so far - blood work normal. Why won't they acknowledge how huge this is?

A couple of hours ago I had to euthanize my 8 year old brown Tabby, BOOTS due
to sudden & extreme renal failure.
I held her and told her to meet her brothers (Canines) and sisters (Feline) at the
RAINBOW BRIDGE. I'll join them soon I hope. These are just not pets, they are
my children. I have had 8 cats since 1981.
Boots is the youngest to have passed away.
My only surviving child, FATE, is now showing signs of renal failure.
I fed them wet FANCY FEAST and wet FRISKIES - different flavours. Did I kill her?
No, I put my trust in the Pet Food Industry. I won't trust them again. If I lose
FATE, I don't want to live. I can't live without my children and I miss them and
want to see them soon. I await that day eagerly. I love you Boots. Your pain is
now over. My pain is just beginning.
Gray cat died on Feb 17th, three days before they announced the recall. He was eating 9 lives and purina naturals dry cat food. Neither one of these is on the list..yet. My other cat did not eat the 9 lives and only ate a small amount of the dry food since she eats a special diet. I'm not sure what to think, but gray cat died exactly the same way as all the rest of the pets. I miss him terribly.
My baby boy, Jack, a blue domestic long hair died last night after just turning 1 year old - April 28, 2007. I don't know why! Maybe it was the food, but he didn't show any symptoms until last night. Then he started crying and making this awful gagging sound - worse that hairballs. Then he started throwing up little bits of pink mucus. He died within 5 minutes and after he was gone I noticed his mouth was full of white foam. Anyone who has any idea of what may have happened PLEASE contact me. JACK was the MOST amazing cat I have ever met in my life - and I've met many. Every morning he came into the bathroom with me as soon as I got up. When we went outside he always stayed with me. All of my neighbors knew him and he became known as the neighborhood pet. He was so beautiful and wonderful I will miss him always!! Right now (he only died last night) I don't think I will ever own another cat. He was my heart. I keep thinking of the forward that's been around several times where the two angels stay with two different families. At the second family the cow that provided everything they needed from milk to money, died. When the second angel questioned the first about letting this happen, the first angel explained that the angel of death came for the farmer's wife and she had given him the cow instead. If that's what happened here I am greatful to my JACK-JACK angel for saving my children and my husband. he will always be my little hero! l WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU JACK - I AM SO SORRY YOU LEFT US SO EARLY AND I WILL MISS YOU ALWAYS.
You may consider taking him to the vet to find the cause of death. You may have a case against the pet food makers.

Wednesday I noticed my 7 year old cat was not moving much, not eating anything or drinking anything. I took him to the vet who thought maybe he had gotten into a fight and sent the two of us home with anitbiotics. Willy did not get better. So on Saturday morning I took him back to the vet and said he still has not eaten and I've been forcing water down him using an eye dropper. I had tried to force chicken broth too but he threw it up after one minute along with blood tainted mucus. He also had runny stools. The vet x-rayed him and says he has one enlarged kidney. Today is Sunday and I waited outside the vets office for the girl who comes in to feed them. She said he is awake but still has not eaten or had anything to drink or gone to the restroom. I have fed my cat many of the same foods that have been mentioned in the above posts. Willy is going to die,...isn't he. I'm going to have to have him put to sleep aren't I. I AM SO ANGRY AND SO HURT AND SO GUILTY ! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH! How will I ever get through this?

Tricia would have been eight in August - we picked her and her sister out less than six months after my step-sister was killed in a car wreck (and named her after my sister). She was companion and friend to my whole family - but also theraputic to my special needs son. Yesterday, I had to make the choice to put her down due to Renal failure. Her sister (from the same litter) is lost and my son is devestated. I'm sick at the thought that this could have been avoided! I'm now watching my other cat and praying we don't lose her as well...
After spending over $2000 trying to save her, we had to make the choice to put down our 5 year old Siamese cat, Maylee. She was a sweet, loving cat who helped us get through our son's brain surgery and my husband's cancer recovery. She slept on our bed every night and greeted me at the door when I came home from work. We are heartbroken and she is truly missed.

Dove our 3 year old tabby has barely made it through after eating Special Kitty brand food after the recall. Wal Mart cleared the shelves but what they had after was supposedly safe. She went into renal failure. This after having been in for a check up only weeks before and having a clean bill of health. 1 week of this food and 4 cats and 1 dog (who is bad about finishing the left over cat food) all have kidney problems from mild to life-threatning.
I consider us so very lucky as we could never put a price on any of our precious pets lives but with vet bills presently at 650.00 and climbing we will be looking to the pet food company for compensation and answers as to how this could happen after the recall.
I support Cathy MacIvor's class action against these pet food producers. She is working with Senator Durbin to make some real changes in the pet food industry. I signed up for the class action. I want to make a point to these companies!

Yesterday I lost my second cat to kidney failure. The first, Beauty, was only 8 and died last August before the recalls were announced. He was eating 9 Lives, Whiskas and President's Choice canned food ... all meat with gravy style. Shortly after he was put to sleep Pillsbury developed the same symptoms. He and Beauty were the only two of our cats that ate the wet food. We got him to the vet early on and he had his kidneys flushed, was given antibiotics and nutrical paste to help with his nutrition. After Christmas he seemed to be improving. Last week he stopped eating. Once again we took him to the vet who treated him the same as in the past. We had him home for the weekend but he couldn't walk, eat or drink. The vet had giving him water through an IV to hydrate him and over the weekend his kidneys stopped processing the water. Late Sunday night he started having some breathing problems so I stayed up all night with him to help keep him comfortable. His breathing had worsened by Monday morning and my husband took him to the vet to have him put to sleep. Pillsbury turned 11 last month. I am in Nova Scotia, Canada. I noticed two weeks ago that my local Superstore had removed all of the President's Choice meaty food from their shelves. Too late for Beauty and Pillsbury. Companies we trusted have betrayed us all for the benefit of their bottom line. When will this madness stop????

In memory of Mother Cat. She died suddenly from kidney failure, two weeks before the recall was announced. This should have NEVER happened to any of our pets!!!!! We love them, care for them, and feed them the best food to help them live longer and happier lives.......and we get this in return? my best buddy in the world, simon, is dead from kidney failure. we just spent 2 happy years on an acreage where he ate Iams dry kibble and fresh mice and birds. we moved to the city about 2 months ago and he just started eating friskies shredded chicked and salmon in gravy for about 2 - 3 weeks. i had to watch him vomit bile and feel awful for 2 weeks while the vets claimed to have no idea what the problem was. he was only 6 years old and i miss him dearly. my mon is worried because i am obsessed with this poison cat food issue and i have already suffered and continue to do so. i live in alberta, canada and nobody will help me get some answers. i have a can of food that i want tested. if there is anyone in alberta who would be able to help please email me. i can't ever replace him and i am angry at myself for trusting purina. i honestly hope everyone responsible for this goes through what simon and i had to go through. i want to feed them what's left of my friskies and see how safe it really is.

This is such a sad story. I know your mom worries but having you obsessed about the issue may not be such a bad thing. I, too, am obsessed and hope to get changes made in the pet food industry. In the states there are independent labs which will test your food as well as universities such as Oklahoma State who can do testing. Please hang on to your sample and the original package it came in, you may want it some day.

I lost my cat, Girl, of 17 years on Feb 24th this year or renal failure. She had a complete checkup with bloodwork 3 months earlier showing no problems. It started with kidney infections not responding to meds...3 times in 3 months. At last vet visit I was told she was in renal failure but could still live with some diet changes and maybe meds an d of course regulaer bloodwork to see how she was progressing. SHe died 3 days latter. SHe was walking formt he bedroon to the living room where I was and just colasped. She never moved or blincked again. For nearly 3 hours I waited for the end, it never came, she had to be put to sleep. Not 3 weeks later my other cat, Normal, began showing the exact symptoms. Her blood work has shown nothing signifigant, but she's dying anyway. Bu the middle of April she had gone form 19lbs down to just under 7 lbs. At this point we have tied appitiete stimulants for months, and anxiety meds, valium.....everything. SHe is also licking compulsivily to the point of no hai on belly or legs and very raw belly skin. She won't eat often at all no matter what I try. She just continues at thisn point to continue downhill. Now we have to make the choice to put her down or see if afte 6 months now, will she start to get better. She no longer even gets up to go potty, just does it in her chair. She's very weak. I don't now that she isn't having the same issues as Girl did, but I do have no doubt she is dying of a broken heart. If there is a class action lawsuit, I would like info please.

Smudge was 10 yrs old and stopped eating. I work out of town and boyfriend told me that there was a bad rain storm with thunder and lightening that she was just scared. This happened on a Thurs. evening. I returned on Friday and still no water or food. This was in March 07. So I got some grass outside thinking she had an upset stomach. She ate a bit and still no food. So Sunday afternoon I went to the emergency Vet. She was a black and white cat. I started to see her color was turning to yellow. The Vet said she had a liver problem. The next day my boyfriend took her to another Vet. She used a syringe to force protein down her. When cats lose fat they don't metablolize it. It just hangs out in their blood. So Smudge spent three days doing that. Then the tests weren't improving. We then went to another Vet. We spent a week there. Smudge had surgery to put a tube under her jaw to force feed her. Again the results of her liver, kidneys and pancreas were terrible. I then decided to let go of her and put her down. It was awful. I work 75 miles from my house. During that 1 1/2 week period, I came to see her as much as I could. It was still hard to give that last hug. I know when life ends for me some day, we will meet again. We planted her in the flower bed. Since I was not here, my boyfriend put her in a Rubbermaid and buried her. So if any test are ever needed we have them. I put her down on April 4th my daughter's birthday.

My cat Cleo, my favorite of all of the pets I've ever had, is currently experiencing kidney failure as a result of eating a couple of types of the recalled cat food. They were her favorites and it was all she would eat. We're doing everything we can to keep her with us, including flushing her kidneys daily and periodically putting her on an IV. I've had this cat from the moment she was born. She's my best friend of 9 years and I refuse to let her become another casualty.

My 10 year old cat named Scoot died the first week of July after pet food poisoning. He had renal failure. The Vets did all they could to save him. I believe Del Monte Food is the company that killed my cat. I let them know that their Meow Mix and/or Chicken Meaty Morsels Treats killed him. They were rude to me over the phone but did send me a check for 25 dollars since I sent them all his medical records. I have not cashed the check, and will not cash it. I just want that company to PAY by loss of income from customers. Let there be NO DOUBT, they DO NOT CARE if your pet dies and they will say or do anything to blow you off. I have banned them from my life forever.
I miss my Scoot so much. He was such a wonderful cat, my firest, and he was so talented and smart and loving.

Yep Susan, that is about the size of it. Thank you for your condolences. They mean a lot. Every night before I close my eyes, I pray, and ask God to please tell Scoot hello and that I miss him. If Scoot is not in heaven, I don't want to go. Does that make sense? I wish I could have been with him when he died. He was at the Vet's office. He was there for the second night, and had improved that day, woofing up his dinner. The Vet's were encouraged, and then he died by the next morning. It hurts so much that I was not with him when he passed. I feel like it will be forever before I can get over his death and the loss of him. He was my first cat. I am a big dog fan and have six dogs. Scoot would answer my telephone when it would ring. He knocked it off the cradle and meowed. It was the most awesome thing. He was so special.
I detest these companies and pray for their bankruptcy and demise. You can't cut corners when you have little lives at stake. Melamine is what killed him and that is an anti freeze agent. What in the heck is China putting that in wheat gluten for, in the first place. There were tons of fish and cattle that had to be exterminated because of the melamine posioning in the feeds. Del Monte makes plenty of money, they don't need to deal with China to save a few bucks. Grrrrrrrrr..they make me sick. I can't even think about it anymore right now. Need to take a break.

T C my beautiful baby girl died April 28th, 2007. She had never been sick a day in her life. Not even a cough. I'm not sure if it was the Sophisticat flaked chicken w/tuna I had been feeding her since the recall; when Menu Foods told us all "anything not on the list is safe to feed your pets"; or the fancy feast flaked tuna w/chicken I switched her to after Menu foods recalled the former on April 5rh. The fancy feast was never recalled; yet the vet said what ever elevated her levels to the point they were at was most likely still being fed to her.
As of today it appears that Nutro dog food is still making dogs very ill; in some instances still causing death. It has been 1 year since the recall; when is this going to stop???

Corn, wheat, and soy are what is killing our pets. When the pet food companies stop using grains to cut costs our pets will stop becoming ill and dying. These three grains are just like feeding anitifreeze.

I had to put my sweet Pogie down just short of her 15th birthday. I miss her so much. Shw was (and still is ) my best friend. I always fed her and her sisters the best food but that is no guarantee. Purina is the only safe food. I will never know what caused her death. I cannot blame anyone--I don't want hate mixed in with my feelings for my Poogie girl. She lived a good life and we gave each other so much joy.

In Memory of my beloved Sheba. i will never forget her. She lived to be 16 yrs and the morning she died was right beside my bed. She didn't want to die alone.I think she is on rainbow bridge in heaven waiting for me, in the arms of God now. I will miss her to the day I die and everytime I think of her or find a picture of her I cry. Many dollars were spent on her for vet bills, she had a bad thyroid and had to take medicene for it. The vet begged me to have her put down but I just couldn't I told him she will die a natural death and when it is her time. I feel animals are just like people a part of the family and you don't kill old people just because they are old so why do that to animals.

My cat Pookie began to throw up soon after starting to eat purinas indoor formula. Took him to the vet and found that he was hypothermic, dehydrated, had a heart murmur probably caused by either kidney failure or heart problems. I feel it was the food. Had to put him to sleep. He's been my baby for 12 years and it broke my heart, having to make that decision. Something should be done. I will love and remember him forever. I miss him sleeping at the foot of my bed. The house is so empty without him.
