There are a lot of causes of diabetes. An improper diet and an unhealthy lifestyle if not changed, could lead to diabetes in time. Eating foods that are high in carbohydrates in routine and taking in too much fat and protein could lead to damage in the pancreas. In order for the body and its organs to work properly, we need to have a balanced diet because if you concentrate on just one food group or you take in too much of something, there is a great possibility that the organs will stop functioning as they normally do. Bread, cakes, ice creams and biscuits are some of the foods rich in carbohydrates that are often eaten by people on a regular basis. Because of this, children are also at risk of developing diabetes. Since they are kids, most parents just give them whatever they want to eat and the foods mentioned are the ones that children usually like. Overeating could also cause diabetes so to prevent you and your children from developing diabetes, you should observe a proper and balanced diet. Eat as healthily as possible and you will have higher chances of escaping diabetes.

Other than not getting a proper diet, unhealthy habits could also make a person diabetic. Smoking and drinking too much alcohol do not only bring cancer, these could also lead to diabetes and other diseases. If a heavy smoker continues to smoke after developing diabetes, it is possible that he or she will suffer from premature mortality. Nicotine has some dangerous effects to the body, so in order to avoid being in this kind of situation, you should make it a point to at least try to get rid of these habits.

Age is also one of the causes of diabetes but this is mainly due to their inability to move more. People who are above 45 years of age will find it harder to move around so they will be less and less active as they get older. Old age could also make a person gain a lot of weight, leading to pancreatic dysfunction and possibly, diabetes.

Certain virus infections that directly affect the pancreas could also bring diabetes. These viruses could make the pancreas unable to release insulin that is responsible for our body’s energy restoration. If the pancreas is unable to function properly, our body’s blood sugar levels also become unstable, impairing other bodily functions.

70% of the time, people could develop diabetes by having unhealthy lifestyles but for others, they get it from their genes. Since diabetes could be inherited, it is important that the individuals with diabetes in their blood line take care of their bodies even more. Since they would not have any control on the genes they would receive from their parents, the best that they could do is try to be active as much as they can and eat healthily. Making sure that your body gets to move regularly would significantly increase the risk of diabetes, so regular exercise would do a lot of help in improving your health. It is also important to watch your weight and always eat moderately. Never overeat because once you develop this habit, it will be hard to get away from it. You would always crave for more and more food until you realize that you are already overweight and is at a higher risk of getting diabetes.

Diabetes may be caused by a lot of factors but there certainly are more ways to save your self from it. Even if you might have it in your genes, you could still escape from it if you just remain healthy. Just make sure that you stay away from unhealthy habits that are often regarded as causes of diabetes and you will be fine.
