Cellulite is defined as the fatty tissue that is found right below the surface of your skin. This fatty tissue rests on top of a layer of firm collagen connective tissue. When we are younger, our skin appears smooth because the fatty tissue under the skin is smooth. Once this fatty tissue loses its flexibility and strength, it begins to weaken, causing very noticeable dimples or bumps on our skin's surface. These dimples and bumps are signs of cellulite. This is an unwanted sign of aging. There are many factors that contribute to the occurrence of cellulite. In the following article we will delve into some of the main causes of cellulite.

Cellulite usually forms on our buttocks, upper arms, thighs and knees. Many women have nicknamed the appearance of cellulite as cottage cheese, orange peel and pin-cushion. No matter what the name is cellulite is an undesired occurrence as our fatty tissues become weaker with age.

Age does not always play a part in the development of cellulite as some adolescents are already visually able to see the appearance of cellulite on different parts of their bodies.

Women who have experienced pregnancy and lactation may see more cellulite on their bodies because the body uses the fatty tissue as insulation, structural support and cushioning. Calories are stored in these fatty tissues to allow sufficient lactation and nutrients to be received by the baby. So it can be said that Mother Nature plays a very important role in the development of cellulite.

It has also been proven that the fat in our skin acts as an aid in the balancing of our hormones as we enter into so-called "old age", this balance works very much like an endocrine organ.

One of the foremost causes of cellulite oftentimes begins with our lymphatic system. The development of cellulite begins when our skin experiences impaired blood flow and lymph circulation. These two negative factors cause the subcutaneous layer of the skin to become clogged as the circulation of blood is greatly decreased. The skin tissue is then weakened through the starvation of blood flow and the tissue then begins to retain fluid. Since lymph circulation has been effected lymph drainage is prohibited from carrying away the unwanted waste that has become trapped in the skin. This waste has no where to go so it stays under your skin. This decrease in healthy circulation causes the veins and capillaries to also become weakened. This causes them to leak blood into your skin tissue. This leakage causes an increase in pressure and the rerouting of blood around that particular cellulite area. When this happens cellulite develops because of the poor circulation that causes the fats and toxins to remain in the skin tissue.

Food and dietary intake is another pertinent cause of cellulite. It plays a big part in the development of cellulite by causing toxic build-up and poor circulation. Processed foods and foods full of chemical additives cause toxins to accumulate in certain parts of our body. These toxins become deposited in and near fatty tissue. This is a major environmental cause to the occurrence of cellulite.

Smoking also plays a harmful role and is a major cause of cellulite. Nicotine constricts blood vessels and causes us to receive less nourishment and natural detoxification. This restricts and damages vein and capillary walls. Smoking fast forwards the aging process and the development of cellulite.

The cause of cellulite is based on many factors. Some causes of cellulite are as follows: It can be genetic, unfortunately handed down from one generation to another. Inactivity can cause body fat levels to rise as our food intake becomes greater then our energy output. Aging also plays a significant role in the development of cellulite as do environmental factors.

Although the causes of cellulite are quite a few, one thing to remember is that cellulite is not permanent. We can get rid of cellulite by exercising and detoxifying our bodies of these unwanted fatty, waste deposits. Cellulite can be perceived as awful but in essence it is one-hundred percent curable.

Luckily I don't have a real celulite problem but I do know that there are people who suffer from it really badly. They then spend a small fortune and all sorts of products that don't even work.
