Ceiling fans have been in use one way or the other. Some eastern countries like the sub-continent used fans even in times when most of its areas were without electricity. A belted mechanism was connected to a ceiling fan and a wheel of a cycle like contraption which was then run by a person. And after electricity, the ceiling fans are still in use in homes as well as companies.

            The basic function of a ceiling fan is to distribute the air evenly to the surroundings. A fan usually has three blades which are tilted at an angle to make the path for the air. The blades are connected to a motor that rotates when provided with electricity. The blades are usually made of a metallic element and are also coated with a protected layer to make it safe from damage due to environment. A fan can help lowering energy cost as it distributes the air around either hot or cold which means a room can have a stable temperature rather than a ceiling or a certain part taking advantage of the AC or heating system.

            There are many designs in a ceiling fan. Some are made out of wood are coated with a wood resembling material. Some also have built in lights which take the power directly from the fan. The size of the fans can also be chosen to meet the needs. A large room may require a relatively large size fan.
