Becoming a Star Has Risks

Why would we want our kids to become celebrities?  Is it for our own selfish unfulfilled dreams trying to be forced upon our kids?  When looking at all of the news these days, I come to wonder why becoming a celebrity is worth the heartache.  I understand it offers a chance to make a ton of money, fame, and fortune, but at what point do you say that it becomes unworth the risk.

In this artlicle I will express my views on the celebrities making headlines these days, and why becoming a star in today's media unfriendly times is not worth it.

Micheal Jackson

Micheal Jackson is ofcourse the most talked about celebrity these days for obvious reasons. But what is more concerning to me is all of the things that became problems for Micheal due to the wealth that he had earned.

The recent reports of having Diprivan found in his home brings to light the problem of someone having so much money that he could do whatever he wanted. No one I had ever heard of with insomnia could afford to pay for someone to come into his or her house and watch them sleep while under sedation. For so many reason alone this is wrong and dangerous.

Micheal could leverage any of these doctors to give him what he wanted by either financial means or by his celebrity status. For these two reasons alone, I would not want any of my children to become so succesful that they could begin ordering people to do what they wanted instead of being advised against it.

PayRod and Manny

Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez

For this section, I am going to combine two celebrities that have the same disease: Greed. When it came to talent level, both of them already had enough talent to put them into the upper eschelon of the baseball world. They were not satisfied with being average and had to take enhancements in order to get ahead.

When my kids finally figure out what it is they want to do in life, I will explain to them the importance of doing things naturally. While others around them might be taking or trying things that make them better, stronger, or faster, the old addage that comes to minds is "all good things come to an end".

Bernard Madoff

While greed still played a major role in the Bernard Madoff scandal, the major thing that Madoff did wrong was he took advantage of other people in order to get ahead. He cared more about his own selfish wants and needs and did not care about others around him.

He got so caught up in trying to get rich that he not only brought down himself, but he brought down others around him. When raising my kids, I have expressed to them that honest hard work will always get you further than trying to steal someone elses gain.

The Media

While there is no real scandal with the media, I strongly believe that the media is getting to the point where nothing is sacred. It is really none of my business if Paris Hilton sneezed on Nicole Richie or if Johnny Depp left a dollar tip at a restaurant. I could really care less.

To Micheal, Manny, Alex, Bernard, Sarah Palin, and all the other scandals that are going on right now, do we really need to hear every gory detail. All we need to know really is the high level story about the fact that Alex and Manny took steroids. We don't need to know that the brothers, uncles, aunts, sisters, cousin that was twice removed brought back something from somewhere to give to someone.

Enough is Enough Already.

What this all shows is that I will really think twice about what direction I push my kids.  Am I sitting here saying that I hope they work in a low paying job and having a hard time paying their bills on a month to month basis.  No.  What I am saying is that there are good paying jobs everywhere that do not come with this type of ridicule and spy glass treatment that all celebrities get.

Now this is just one fathers opinion and I am sure that some will leave this article and say what a ^%^%$(*, But I am still okay with that.......
