Celebrity Owned Hotels & Resorts
63There's two ways you can get to meet celebrities. First, you hang around outside popular clubs and at premieres and outside their homes and places where celebrities often go shopping, etc. And you can push and shove your way in through a crowd of screaming fans and angry security guys, so you can shake the celeb's hands when you know that all he or she wants is to be left alone.
Or... You could take the trouble to find out what kind of businesses your favorite stars are involved in, and turn up at their place of business. First, most stars do have businesses on the side, where they're part of full owners. Second, most celebrity owned businesses are frequented by other celebrities. That's a fact. Third, none of these celebs will stop you from entering the premises, be rude to you, or brush you off, because you're the customer, and they're earning from you.
And you can make this even easier, by staying at celebrity owned hotels and resorts, so that you can hang around all day snapping pictures and collecting autographs, if you feel like it.
Looking for some good hotels in Carmel, CA? if you're staying at the Mission Ranch, and munching on Dirty Harry Burgers at the Hog's Breath Inn, you might just find Clint Eastwood staring at you with his flinty eyes. Because he owns both the properties, and he'll be happy to welcome you in at both places. He virtually lives in Carmel.
And If you're in Carmel, you might also want to visit the Cypress Inn, co-owned by Doris Day. She runs the Doris Day Animal League in Carmel, which advocates homes and proper care of household pets.
And as far as NYC is concerned, there's a bucketload of celebs who own all kinds of businesses, but talk about restaurants or New York hotels, and there's only one go-to guy. Robert DeNiro owns just about everything in Tribeca, with businesses all over the place. You might want to book in at the Greenwich hotel and check out the Sushi at Nobu Tribeca or the Tribeca Grill. He's planning to open a Nobu Hotel too, but that's still in the works, and so is the currently stalled J Hotel project from Jay-Z.
And if you're looking for a winter ski getaway close to New York City, there's tons of ski resorts and lodges and inns, but only one offers a celebrity host - Kate's Lazy Meadow Motel in the Catskills, run by Kate Pierson, the B-52s singer. Discuss music, and so long as you don't ask her about the little kerfuffle over her nudie pics, and you'll be well taken care of.
And if you're tired of the same old stars and attractions in New York and Los Angeles, then I suggest a trip to Belize. Leonardo DiCaprio owns Blackadore Caye, a 104-acre island off the coast of Belize, where he's building an eco-friendly resort. Francis Ford Coppola owns three resorts in the area - Two in Belize (Blancaneaux Resorts - Turtle Inn & Blancaneaux Lodge) and one in the Guatemalan rainforest (La Lancha).
Not interested in Belize? Then how about Australia? Head for Olivia Newton John's Gaia Retreat & Spa in New South Wales. London, maybe? Try Anoushka Hempel's The Hempel Hotel, where you get an actress and a designer, along with celebs like Michael Jackson, all rolled into one.
