Celebrity drug busts raguett's top 20

The tabloids love a good celebrity drug bust and over the last half century or more there have been plenty of stars busted for dope. Here is my top twenty list, some you probably will have heard of and some may shock you.

20. Bill Murray our favourite Ghostbuster was arrested in 1970- While he was attending Regis University, he dropped out after being arrested at Chicago's O'Hare Airport for trying to smuggle nearly 9 pounds of marijuana.

19. Dawn Mills Mary Ann from ‘Gilligan's Island' was recently arrested in 2007 during a traffic stop when 4 partially consumed marijuana cigarettes and several containers of marijuana were found in her car. She failed the field sobriety test and was taken into custody. She was fined $410.50 and place on probation for six months. A five-day jail stay was suspended!

17. Paul Reubens better know as ‘Peewee Herman" was arrested in 1971 for possession and then again he was arrested in 1991, this time for indecent exposer. Yuck...!

16. Louis Armstrong was arrested in 1931, the famous jazz trumpeter was busted outside an L.A jazz club for marijuana. Louis spent nine days in jail.

15. David Bowie was arrested in 1976 for marijuana possession and had about half a pound on him. The maximum sentence he would have received was 15 years but the charges were later dropped and Bowie continued singing. Good thing since his heavy cocaine use through the years brought out quite an interesting side of the artist.

14. Tony Curtis the actor who shared the screen with Marilyn Monroe in "Some Like it Hot" found himself in hot water in 1970 when he was arrested for marijuana possession at the Heathrow airport

13. Bob Marley ( big surprise) He was arrested only once in 1977 for marijuana possession so he must have hid it in his drugs after that.

12. Willie Nelson was arrested in 1995 but charges were dropped due to an illegal search, and again he was arrested in 2006 and released for 1.5 pounds of pot and a bag of mushrooms found at a traffic stop. He entered a guilty plea and was fined $1,024 and placed on probation for six months. The long-haired crooner has always been outspoken in his stance for the legalization of marijuana so it not a surprise.

11. Amy Winehouse was arrested in 2007 with her husband in Norway for marijuana possession and were realesed after paying an 800 dollar fine. Winehouse was later denied a US visa because of "use of narcotics", but was then later issued one.

10. Woody Harrelson was arrested in 1996 for planting 4 marijuana hemp seeds in rural Kentucky because he was challenging a law that didn't distinguish between marijuana and hemp. The charge was dismissed, probably because they were confused and didn't know the difference between the two either. Duhh...!!

9. Snoop Dog was arrested 2006 for parking a loading zone and found in possession of marijuana and a firearm. He was released on a $35,000 bond. He was arrested again a few months later for the same two things in his possession after performing on the "Tonight Show." Better stick to the gin and juice man.

8. Notorious Big 1991-before fame hit- arrested for dealing cocaine and spent 9 months in jail waiting to make bail. 1996- arrested for having 50 grams of marijuana and four automatic weapons. He was arrested again in the same year for being caught smoking weed in a car. Sadly, the rapper's life was taken in 1997 before some of charges against him could be resolved.

7. The Rolling Stones band members were arrested several times in 1967. The first bust was at Keith Richards country Home, while Jagger and other partied Richards wasn't home. Richards won and appeal and Jagger was given a conditional discharge.

6. Freddy Fender the Tex-Mex pop star was arrested in 1960 in Louisianan for less then six grams of pot that was sent to prison for 3 years...3 YEARS?!? What?!?

5. Timothy Leary was arrested in 1968, he was sentenced to 10 years in California where he later escaped. Leary spent the next 27 months as a fugitive before he was captured in Afghanistan in 1973. He was brought back to the U.S, he was released from jail in 1976.

4. Ray Charles The legendary musician was arrested in 1958 and 1961 for heroin possession and in 1964 was arrested for heroin and marijuana possession at the Boston airport. 1965-arrested for heroin possession after being addicted for almost 20 years. He avoided jail by getting clean at a clinic in Los Angeles and spent a year on parole.

3. Chuck Berry found himself in a few run-ins with the law over the years and was no stranger to prison but it wasn't anything related to drugs. Armed robbery, underage prostitutes and some tax evasion. His house was raided in 1991 because authorities heard he was dealing cocaine. They confiscated marijuana and hashish and pornographic videotapes and films but charges against him were later dropped. Just for fun - go find and download "My Ding-a-ling." 2. John Lennon was arrested in 1968 for hash in London, he was fined 150 pounds about 360$. Five years later when Lennon was living in the U.S he was ordered to leave due to the prior drug history, it was later a battle with the U.S government that was resolved when the federal appeals court overruled the deportation and awarded Lennon a green card in 1975.

1. Paul McCartney has had numerous run in with the law, first was at an airport in Tokyo in 1980 when the Beatle was arrested for attempting to smuggle a half pound of pot into Japan. He was sentenced to nine days in jail and permanently deported. In 1972 he again ran in to the law twice, once for smuggling hash into Sweden and again for possession in Scotland. Then again in Scotland in 1973 for growing on his Scotland farm. Paul and his former wife Linda were busted again in Barbados for possession in 1984, where once again they were deported.
