Cell Phones - Are They Dangerous?
66The Jury Is Still Out
These days, it seems that everyone is using a cell phone, or other mobile device - such as a blackberry, iphone, treo, etc. But are they safe? The bottom line is, it may be too early to tell. These mobile devices are required by law to meet the requirements for radiation emissions and the short-term studies that have been done are unable to demonstrate that cell phones cause cancer.
However, because cell phones are a relatively new technology, it is impossible to say for certain that they are completely safe. One studied showed that exposing worms to cell phone radiation caused them to release heat shock protein - a sign of cell damage. However that does not necessarily mean that cell phones are dangerous
Cell Phones CAN Be Deadly!
While the jury is still out on the effects of long-term cell phone use, it may be beneficial to get a phone that does not need to be right against your head. This may help to reduce the amount of radiation you are exposed to.
We do know of one way in which a cell phone can kill - cell phone driving! That's right, using your cell phone while driving - whether it be to send a text, chat on messenger, or have a regular old conversation, can be deadly. Recent studies show that using a cell phone impairs your ability to drive as much as being drunk! Our laws are working hard to catch up to the latest data and more countries are looking at bills to outlaw the use of cellphones while driving.
So play it safe and stay off your phone while driving!
