Censorship; Good or bad?
63Censorship has been argued about for a long time it is now a everyday occurrence. We cannot go anywhere without seeing it. Whether it’s on a packet of cigarettes, on a film, the news or a game.
Does it really prevent young children from seeing things they shouldn’t? Could they not just see the same things in real life?
Drugs, crime, sex and violence are everywhere. Could we put a 15 certificate on life?
Scenes of people consuming alcohol or smoking in films may influence people to copy them but then would seeing people on the streets smoking not influence as well?
Could playing video games make you a psychopathic mass murder?
Violence and murder was around a long time before video games. People are going to kill people and playing violent video games will not make someone specifically go out and kill, although it could influence how they kill. Perhaps we should worry more about the game designers than the players.
Most people would agree that suicide is worse than murder as it is often caused from upset and bullying and is self induced. Cutting this from films could be good thing as it is generally found more upsetting than just cold blooded murder.
Censorship provides a guide for parents to follow but there are always ways to see things we shouldn’t so what good is censorship if children can go behind their parents and watch the films they shouldn’t?
Things that are regularly censored become a taboo convocation topic amongst most of society e.g. –Sex, homosexuality and drugs. If you hide things people become more curious.
However there is still an issue that easily influenced people could copy scenes from films Maybe we should do something to help these types of people.
We perhaps need to consider that people are influenced by the media perhaps showing pictures of over photo shopped images of stick thin models, expensive “in” clothing.
All in all most people would agree that it is the parent’s duty to keep their children safe and teach them the difference of a game and what is accepted in real life . However used properly, censorship serves as a valuable tool.
