Cesar Millan

Cesar Millan has been the consultant to many celebrities, to which his name grew and his brand expanded. With the release of The Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan has been able to reach out to many people who have problem dogs with problem behaviors.

Although, many people swear by Cesar Millan's methods, I would not consider him a "dog training guru" as he may find himself to be. If he has the skills that he proclaims, why doesn't he help more "untrainable" dogs that are euthanized each year?

As a critic of Cesar Millan, I find that although his methods do, and can, work, they are not always for the lesser experienced dog owner. IE not everyone dog owner should perform an alpha roll over without the help of a professional.

But, for those of you who have found yourself a big fan of the man, you may want to check out his DVDs, books, and other products.

Cesar Millan The Author

I'm a big reader in dog behavior and psychology, and even though I am not the biggest Cesar Millan fan, I found compelled to read his books.

Cesar Millan has a number of good tips that will help even the lesser experienced dog owner to understanding their own dog and finding ways in which the entire family will cohabitate together under the same roof.

And, yes I realize that I mentioned above that Cesar Millan's methods are not always for the lesser experienced, but for example, in his book "Cesar's Way," Cesar Millan explained the basics and the ideals of a perfect family living with a dog without going into some of the harsher techniques that he implements.

Although, there are other dog behavior books that have the same and similar content and advice, if you are really interested in training your dog you want to read everything that you can from all perspectives and from all trainers, as each trainer has a slightly different style.

The Illusion Collar & Leash Set

Cesar Millan the TV Star

On his television show, Cesar Millan shows his way to help the average person to solve the common everyday problem behaviors. For those who have tried the Cesar Millan methods, you may have experienced a change in your dog, but not everyone has.

If you are a Cesar Millan fan, or you know someone who is, you may be interested in purchasing the season sets of the Dog Whisperer.

Or, maybe you just want to purchase one or two DVD disks, and you can do that as well.

I couldn't have put it any better than you have! Any time you mention that you or your dog has one thing to work on, it's almost inevitable that anyone or someone will mention the name Cesar and tell you to pick up his DVD or book to rectify any problem.

Myself however, I don't and will never believe in hitting a dog as a training method. Nor would I ever perform his Alpha roll over in training on my own. (There's a quick way to see how big a dog's teeth can be. Not in all mind you but, to me - not the safest way to teach who the leader of the pack is).

And as for the illusion collars, to me they seem as if they're just another version of a shock collar with the extra strap attached. If you choose to use negative reinforcement/scare tactics to train your dog, a simple shock collar without the patented Illusion name backed by the now (famous/infamous) trainer.

But you be the judge when it comes time to train your own family member... That's just my two cents.

Thanks for the comment. The illusion collars are not like shock collars. There is no electricity or whatever that is pumped through the collar. Basically it is two regular collars with an attachment connecting them and a slip lead connected to the top. I thought about trying one out, but It looks too complicated as I like to be able to just slip on the collar and take the dog out.

I agree that you should be the judge as to how to train your dog. Not every method works for everyone, ans Cesar Millan's method is a harsh one.
