Ask Susan Peters Dog Food Ingredient Review:
I was able to get a good night's rest after feeding this dog food. My dog scratches and chews on her skin when corn is present in her food. With Cesar there was no scratching and chewing. Odie and everyone in the house was happy with this dog food for not causing itching. I do worry about her teeth, this is a soft dog food so I had to provide a hard snack for her.
No corn, wheat, or say used which cause skin irritation, hair loss, fever, ear infections, kidney failure, liver failure.
Use of by-products. By-products are ingredients used which are not fit for human consumption. By-products are often floor sweepings from a rendering plant.
"Meat" is often rendered dogs and cats as well as other animals such as road-kill. When the source of the meat is known it will be listed as beef, poultry, chicken, turkey, etc. When the source of the meat is not known it is simply called "meat.
Total Score = Ol' Roy dog food, which is considered one of the poorest quality dog foods on the market, scored 5 out of 10. Cesar Dog Food scored 6 out of 10.
The life span of your pet should be at least 20 years. Your pet's diet strongly influences your pet's life expectancy. Always look for a quality pet food which scores 10 out of 10.
Cesar Dog Food is a pet food I would consider a poor choice in pet foods.

Wonderful!
I know that it says cesars is okie. But my pup has vommited once this week, refused her little cesars entrees twice now. which is highly unusual. her stool has been completly white. She also seemed depressed and latargic. Im very worried this is all we have given her, no other food. Ive read many peoples comments on this. Im just asking is it still okie to feed little cesars after the latest food recall.
You, of course, need to get here seen by a vet. The stool color you described sounds like a low iron count. The low iron count could be from other causes.
I feed my toy poodle Cesar and hes threw up three times this week. Is there something wrong with the food?
Remember,
Meat by-products are from dead animals. These dead animals could be dogs and cat which died from the recalled products, etc. This product is not under recall and at this point isn't included in a class action. There is a class action against Wal Mart and Targe which sells this product.
Get your pet to the vet for a blood test!
Susan
Lee Wood,
I hope you realize I am just a writer of pet food reviews and do not represent this pet food company in any way. From the list of ingredients for this pet food the company shows "meat" and "by-products" which is usually road kill, euthanized pets and other animals. Doesn't look good for this company.
Susan
I really am glad I found this hub. I have now started making my dog food myself until I find a brand that I can trust. I used to use Caesar but no longer!
Andrea,
I am glad my pages are helpful to you! Blessings.

Trinket,
Please keep us posted to how you dog does.
Sussan
I have a shih tzu and he likes eating cesar and no other brands of dog food, he is very picky with food and would starve if its not cesar, but i heard from the pet shop owner that cesar has got salt contains which is not advisable cos it will cos itchiness to the dog cos i'm in Singapore, very hot country 365 days. So what should i do ? :(
Jamie,
I don't believe that the salt content in Cesars is harmful to your pet. There are much worse brands out there. Unless you see any change in your pet's health you shouldn't worry.
Susan
my dog has been diagnosed with heart problems. loves cesars. my vet states its to high in salt.
Ann,
There is salt in this pet food. There is no need for added salt. Make sure your pet food does not include corn, wheat, or soy. These three grains will Cause a heart condition. Do not feed corn, wheat, or soy.
Susan
i am wondering what is the breed of the dog on the commercials
Curious,
Westie

I'm a little confused on the review of Cesar. Since it shows by-products (which can be dangerous sometimes), are you still recommending it? I've been giving my Pom mostly Newman's Own can dog food, but she gets tired of it. I've also added Pet Promise and Wellness can dog food for variety. But had considered switching to Cesar since it is more readily available where I am. I don't like the idea of by-products though, so I most likely won't buy any. Appreciate your time and effort in helping all of us, Susan. Thanks so much.
As an added note, I just read your review of Pet Promise. Think I'll stop feeding her that one! Maybe Cesar would be the better option after all.
ML,
I have revised my review of Cesar since this was one of my older reviews. Over all I like the looks of Wellness. I have noticed Wellness has pulled the garlic from their recipes in recent weeks which would raise the scores I have given to Wellness.
Thank you for your kind words!
Susan
Thank you, Susan, for your quick reply. Now I definitely will not consider Cesar but will continue giving her the Wellness along with Newman's Own. Guess until I can find another third option, she'll have to be satisfied with those two choices. I usually get the different flavors available, but after a while, she still seems to get tired of them. Maybe most dogs are like that. But I'd rather be safe with her food, so she'll just have to stick with my plan for now!
Again I say thanks so much. You are doing all the work, and we are benefiting greatly from it.
ML,
Maybe add a little chicken broth (from chicken you have boiled) to change flavor while keeping the same recipe. Glad to be of help. I think sticking with your current plan is a good idea.
Susan
what breed of dog is on the package??
Don,
West Highland Terrier. Often called a "Westie".
Susan
I think my dog should be the new face of Cear Dog Food.
how could i get information on that?
what breed it is the dog in the label for the food
Sorry Susan Peters, but you are giving out a lot of wrong information. At first I thought it was funny, but it's actually disturbing. I would advise you against diagnosing an ill animal, instead I recommend anyone with an animal showing signs of illness to contact their veterinarian. I also advise people to contact their veterinarian for nutritional advise and consultation on ingredients.
My wife is interested in the breed of dog on the Lable of Cears pet food.
I think it is time for a small love for her and me too.
After more than 2 years of feeding Cesar to my Australian Silky Terrier I decided stop doing this. Almost every month she had a stomach problem. This product is considered as high quality dog food, and highly priced ,but after all the problems I had with my dog I am switching to absolutely organic,no by-products dog food .Never again I will watch my dog to suffer because Cesar can food .Shame on you Purina people ,you have only one thing on your mind -profits.
Thank you Susan for opening my eyes.
I feed my Basenji/Fox Terrier puppy Purina One Puppy chow dry and sometimes I mix with heated Cesar Puppy which she whines for. This may not be the optimum wet food but my girl loves it as a treat. Her Vet sees no problem with the choice. She is quite active and healthy on this regimen. I will switch to more mature Cesar products as she gets older but dry food will be her main food. Let your dogs have some enjoyment with their meals once in a while. We humans do!
My chi is about 10# over weight, how can i find out the
caloric value and fat value in her food

My 9-year-old cockapoo came to me 3 years ago with a raging pancreatitis. Cesar is the only commercial dog food that doesn't throw her into an exacerbation of her pancreatitis. She gets simmered and rinsed stewing beef on the kibble in the morning and half a container of Cesar on her kibble at night and she's had the longest symptom-free hiatus on this menu.
