Challenger . . . you.
57Oh, how you challenge me
You think you know me so well
And maybe you do
Which makes me suspicious
That you are someone else
You say you know things of me
That I haven't told you
That you feel them
That they shine through me . . .
But you've seen my face only in still
Heard my voice only in text
Felt my pain only as I present it
And responded only to what you could answer.
And, oh, how I challenge you back
I don't know you hardly at all
Or maybe I do
Which makes me vulnerable
Enough to question myself
And I only know of you
What you are willing to tell me
But I feel them as shields
Protecting you from what you are hiding . . .
But I've seen your face not even in still
Heard your voice only in text
Felt the pain you refuse to present
And respond to the confusion with which you fill me.

Dear Jonathan,
And I say 'Dear' because you are a romantic. I like recognizing the romantic quality in hub writers. It is much the same as when I open up a poetry book and is swept across time to that little moment in time when the writer takes pen to paper to write something that would some day move me, stir me from my stillness. You are universal. You truly address this poem to the reader, and so carefully you address it to those readers whom you know, think, and feel as you do.
