Change Your Luck

Change your luck!
Now YOU can control your luck! Research shows that luck may depend more on attitude than chance. If you want to know what lucky people do to be so lucky, then read on, because you can do it too!
Change Your Life in Four Easy Steps
Remember these four simple ways to change your luck. Practice them, change your life and then share them with others so others can be as lucky as you are going to be!
Four Principles to Practice
Practice is KEY. Practice, and you can do almost anything! Here are four simple things to practice to change your luck.
Be realistic. No amount of practice is going to make me a world class mountain climber. However I can practice what I am good at and have high expectations that can be reached. Luck favors the prepared.
Be positive. Say what you can do. Expect good things to happen.
Be connected. Society and success therein - runs on connection.
Believe. Do what it takes – an amulet, a poem, whatever inspires you to believe, use it. Listen to y our intuition. Notice opportunity when it comes your way. This may take some undoing – unlearn worry and preoccupation. Clear your mind. Be open to new experiences. Then go ahead and take some risks.
The Research
Research supports these principles. The research of Dr. Richard Wiseman discovered “... that people are not born lucky. Instead, lucky people are, using a similar set of principles to create good fortune in their lives". He called this collection of principles “The Luck Factor.” Dr. Wiseman's factors are:
One: Maximize Opportunities - Lucky people created, noticed and acted on chance opportunity. Dr. Wiseman conducted a now famous test to study people's awareness. Not surprisingly, lucky people were more aware.
Two: Listen to Your Intuition -Lucky people listened to their intuition. They left room for intuition and hunches to operate by clearing their minds of unwanted thoughts.
Three: Expect Good Fortune -Lucky people expected to be have good luck, and their expectations became self-fulfilling prophecies.
Four: Turn Bad Luck to Good – This is similar to being positive – lucky people did not dwell on bad luck or decide that they were unlucky when something bad happened. Instead they thought how things could have been worse and instead took control of the situation.
Here is an article on the Dr. Wiseman's research: SPOILER WARNING: If you want to be fair, watch the video above before you read the article. Here is Dr. Wiseman's Test.

Do It Yourself
Lucky people have their own forumla for luck. Based on the research, all you have to do is change the way you think. But just to start, below are some methods people have used to change their attitudes towards their luck:
Lucky objects: Talismans are said to ward off negative things; Amulets are thought to attract good things. Amulets and talismans tend to be universal objects that people agree have a certain quality. What is a talisman to one person might be an amulet to another. Charms are personal objects we choose to enhance our belief in luck. These can be anything from someone's lucky hat or socks, to a charm bracelet with mementos from special events. Here are some examples of lucky objects:
Lucky coins (chinese coins, antique coins, silver dollars)
Jade (carved amulets or animals)
Wish Boxes
Four Leaf Clover
Pet or Animal Artifacts (rabbit feet, pictures)
Religious Artifacts (catholic saints, buddha)
Insects (lady bugs, scarabs)
Jewelry or gems (ankh, om symbol, charm bracelet)
Lucky Words: Words reinforce beliefs: these include spells, mantras and affirmations. Mind control is another way of using words to change the way you think about your fortunes. You'll have to do some research to find the right words depending on your beliefs, but here are some positive affirmations to get started:
I am a success in all that I do.
I respect my abilities and will reach my full potential.
I deserve prosperity of all kinds
My life is filled with love, fun and friendship
I attract healthy relationships
I trust in the process of life
Put together your own formula and start changing your mind today!
A Last Note
Maybe not the last, because you want to know if this works, right? Well, I'm working on it, just like you. I have told people all my life that I have bad luck - and that is what I believed. You know what happened - right - it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. So when I wrote this article I decided to follow the principles I discussed.
Today is January 15 and things have changed already in the two days since I wrote this article. The main thing is that I have been successful in looking at my circumstances through a different set of eyes. I can now see the positive side of things, so today when I got bad news it didn't force the rest of my day to a grinding halt. And when I found the lock on the trunk of my car had frozen, I was able to find the positive in it!
I will update the hub to let you know what is my progress.

I used to blame my last name for my crappy luck, but you are right, ever since I began callin myself lucky, and been carrying around a 4 leaf clover in my shoe... I've been pretty lucky.
I love the whole 'mind over matter' and 'life is what you make of it' mentality. I took numerous psych courses and enjoyed them all. Thanks for a great read :) By the way, you have been nominated as a hubnugget! See http://hubpages.com/hub/hubnuggets-jan19-2009
Thanks all for your support! Now I'll have to go find out what is a hubnugget! My "luck" continues to be good.
Yey, congratulations for being nominated :-) Vote and ask you friends to vote too. Thanks Ardie for telling shashigai about this. Let's make the new year lucky by expecting good things to happen more and more.
What Mark said! Hope you finally got your trunk opened. Luck is not just on the side of the Irish, I am the luckiest man alive and I feel it everyday, I love life.
Great inspiration on a hub well done.
Congratulations on being nominated.
actually, i am dumbfounded. i did get my trunk open, but with the record breaking cold here, my car wouldn't start. i had the tiniest bit of temper and tromped on the accelerator and it started! my luck is getting better and better.
thanks, ripplemaker. i wish i had friends to vote, but i don't have many. i have aspergers and i don't make friends easily (i wrote some hubs about it) .i am hoping that the internet and hubpages will change that. so far it's been good.
Oh okay, can I be your friend then? :-) I would love to be your friend.
is it that easy? don't you have to do other things to be a friend? i am not sure what the other things are, but i know there are other things. i don't know how it works online but IRL you have to go out for coffee (which i dont' drink, i am an english tea drinker) and things like that. what do you do with online friends?
i might should ask this in a forum...
I have an interview for an online teaching job! Woo!
You have put a lot of wisdom in this hub, Shashgai. I do believe that 'luck' is a state of mind and a positive one, at that. I also believe in self-fulfilling prophecies. Luckily :) someone who believes themselves as unfortunate, can turn it around and receive many opportunities for the things that they really want. I think that sometimes, people don't realize that they have control.
Congrats on your job interview, and thumbs up for this hub!
I got the job! I am in the process of completing the credentialling and my training date is already set. WOO! IT WORKED!
Congrats, Shashigai!!! I can feel your excitement all the way to Canada!
Enjoy your good fortunate. You have lots more coming, too.
Great hub.... good luck happen to good people with good intention....
