Sigh. So many things I love, I've had to give up. I've cut back on butter (sad) and cheese (sadder) and other things that can be bad for my health. I And now I need to give up more! Well, no one is forcing me to, but considering how many times I see warnings and bad news in the paper or on TV, I figure it's probably for the best.

When I first heard that a lot of soy can be bad, I didn't really believe it because I figured it was one of those preliminary kinds of warnings that they give after a fairly new study. Apparently, soy results in the production of estrogen, which feeds breast cancer (and can create man-boobs in guys). However, once I heard that people with breast cancer are advised to no longer eat soy or soy products, even if they are in remission, I figured that's a sign for me to cut back on the tofu. Which is unfortunate because I'm a vegetarian and I really took a liking to the stuff.

There are so many of those little advisories that scare the crap out of me. For instance, plastic is bad for your health now (apparently #3, #6, and #7 are the worst kinds, and #1, #2, #4, and #5 are safer... please look on the bottoms of everything plastic that you use to check and see what number is on the inside of the recycle sign. Or read the Plastics Fact Sheet that I included in the Links for this Hub). This reminds me of the whole "Some food dyes can cause impotency" thing, where Red # whatever and Blue # I don't know are the most risky. Why are there so many numbers? Why can't it all be safe? Sigh. Pretty much everything there is is covered in plastic, or is plastic, or has food coloring. No more plastic water bottles for Sara... I'm using metal now. I hope that's not going to be bad either!

I guess there are ways to avoid these things. Sometimes I think about going to live in the mountains and living off the land, away from all of the Bluetooth/wireless/cancerous waves throbbing through the air and from the disgusting smog of civilization. But then I guess acid rain can still burn through my treehouse.

I'd love to hear what changes any of you are doing to improve your health. Please leave comments and let me know that I'm not alone in my quest :)

I've given up for the most part, white flour and products made with it(just about everything), cow's milk and everything with milk in it etc. Mainly because of digestion problems though. I use organic bread etc. I boil my water and put it in the fridge where I can always get a glass. I love to compost and add it to my garden. All things for better health and a cleaner environment. It's not perfect but it's working for me.
