Drawbacks, beware! The first drawback of a work-at-home career is that that you may not know how to work for yourself. Yes, this seems like a no-brainer, but here's a true statement: some people work harder for others than for themselves. If you think you see that in your personality, or if others have noted it, then take a moment to think about the idea. If you are not self-motivated, or need someone looking over your shoulder to keep you going, or have never created and maintained an income from a work-at-home job, then it may be a difficult adjustment.
Second, cost is another important factor in deciding if working at home is right for you or not. Health insurance may be a big factor for you. You will also need to be a good bookkeeper and pay taxes as required in your location.
Also, your work environment should be focused on doing your type of work. The kids, dog, television, housework or other factors may be distractions that can impact your success.
Third, isolation is another problem for those working from home. If you are not comfortable with spending time alone, then it is may not be a good idea for you to work from home.
