Finally Home: Meet the Schmidt's

I looked at Sarah and held her hand. A woman answered the door. She was pretty. She had dark hair, poofed up around her face and ice blue eyes. Then, there was another one of her standing nearby! Yep, I said ANOTHER ONE! I’d never seen TWINS before! Wow! As I was taking it all in, this older woman with golden, poofed up hair came reaching out to us as she said with a great big smile, “HIIIIIIIiiii!” She actually scared me at first!

I felt weird being hugged by a stranger, but I knew this was going to be our new family. Her name was Nana. The lady that opened the door was my new foster Mom; her name was Brooke. Her twin sister was my Aunt Marilee. I even had a Dad, too! His name was Paul. He was tall and handsome. His hair was sandy brown. His face looked gentle and he had a warm smile. Nana’s husband, Gramps, looked like he swallowed a watermelon! He shook my hand and wiggled it back and forth, back and forth! He made me laugh. He said it was a “fish handshake”.

Then came the little dog, Sparkie! He was cute! Kinda stinky, though. I tried to see around all the people to take in the beauty of our new home. I’d never seen a house so pretty. Everything was decorated like I’d seen in magazines. Mom and Aunt Marilee took Sarah and me around the house and showed us our new room. It was so clean and nice! There were two twin beds with pretty bedspreads, nightstands and a matching dresser, beautiful curtains, books and even toys!

I experienced love at first sight as soon as we entered the living room. My heart was hooked when I first laid eyes on their piano! Oh, I couldn’t wait to play! They let me try to play some fingered tunes on it. I was so excited! Mom told me I could take piano lessons to learn how to play it! I felt so loved!

The strange man (the social worker) left us with our new family. I thought about Sean and wished he was there with us…

Dad cooked the most wonderful dinner. After having cornmeal mush and refried beans for so long, it was the best dinner ever! Mom did the dishes after dinner and told us we needed to take baths. I actually got to have some privacy! She was so nice; she even offered to come in to wash my back for me. I didn’t mind. She was a GIRL after all. She even washed my hair for me. Sarah and I got to put on the cutest flannel pajamas.

After our baths, Dad sat with us and read us a story before bedtime. Somehow, we slept wonderfully that night. I was so glad to be in such a wonderful home.

Oh, Vladimir :-) I wish I could write more...everyone is still living!! Have to protect the secrets that only God knows...I can't say life really got any better ~ just more adventure and trials to overcome, even today! In this world we will have trials and tribulations ~ and finding joy is only in the Lord's grace, His miracles and moving mountains, which He's been faithful to do! Amen!!
