Shag Rugs Origins, Popularity and Make

Shag rugs were first introduced in the late 60’s and early 70’s and gained popularity quickly and have remained a popular style till today. The most common characteristic of shag rugs is the long, shaggy pile that is left during the rugs manufacturing process. These kind of rug is loose, fluffy and very comfortable.

Shag rugs are weaved from different materials.People usually use synthetic materials back in the days but lately a lot of collection of these floor decors are made of large selection of natural fibers. The most common natural materials it is used to make it are made from cotton, silk, wool and leather.These materials are known to create a very distinct look and feel.

The highest quality shag rugs are made from 100 percent natural materials. It is because other kinds of materials such as the partially or fully synthetic do not last as long, are more difficult to clean and are not as comfortable. Natural shag rugs typically have a more dense pile with a tighter stitch, creating a higher quality floor cover.

Shag rugs are best used as area rugs because they are difficult to clean. Most shag rugs cannot be vacuumed with roller brush because of the long pile getting sucked up into the motor. Most people shake out the rug on a daily or weekly basis and have it dry cleaned periodically.

Wool Rugs Character

Wool rugs come in various sizes, shapes and styles. It can be found in traditional, oriental or modern style rugs. They have many advantages but the best advantage is they are 100 percent natural. This makes wool rugs a great choice because of its being eco-friendly, free from harmful toxic chemicals that might affect you and your family. It is also extremely durable and most wool rugs can last a few lifetimes, making them a great tradition to keep in a family.

Wool has a natural water-repellent property that prevents spills or flooding from ever being an issue. Other rugs that are water resistant tend to be treated with harmful chemicals to repel the water but leave a danger for your family. This also makes wool rugs easy to clean and care for. Wool rugs also resist dirt and dust, requiring very little maintenance.
