Characteristics of Autism

There are several characteristics of Autism. The characteristics of Autism will vary dependent on the age of the child together with the type of Autism.Although extensive research is being caried out to diagnose early signs of autism it is usually between the ages of 24 - 36 months before the symptoms of autism are diagnosed.

AUTISM SYMPTOMS CHECKLIST-CHARACTERISITCS

As a child develops, the characteristics of Autism become more obvious.

A child with autism signs does not socialise or interact with those around them. Every parent awaits that first smile eagerly, but a child with early symptoms of autism does not smile or react to people smiling at them. Othe signs of autism is the child often gives the appearance of being deaf because they do not react to being spoken to or acknowledge when their name is called.

A child with Autism signs resists learning and sometimes appears aloof. There is very little or no interactions with other children. Also children with Autism do not seem to have the ability to use their imagination when playing with toys, either becoming very destructive or unusually fixated with objects.

Unlike other children when something interests them or attracts their attention ie a balloon flying in the sky, a train going past the normal child will point and try to draw their parents attention to it, whereas the autistic child will show no reaction. On the subject of reaction when the autistic child does react it can be distressing for the parents because their child may be react violently. For example a soft cuddly toy may be abhorrent to the autistic child and force them to scream as if in pain, similarly a cuddle from a parent can cause the same reaction.

Other characteristics signs and symptoms of Autism are tantrums for no apparent reason, inappropriate laughing, unusual body movements for example rapping fingers, spinning objects. Routine is very improtant to children with autism and even the slightest variance to routine can become very distressing for the child.

Whilst there is no cure for Autism the earlier the symptoms are diagnosed the sooner the child can be treated.

Great article. Im looking forward to your next post. Maybe you could look at diets that help Autism and the inclusion of probiotics.
