Are you looking for a home that has some real charm and beauty to it? If so, you might want to take a look at traditional fireplaces! Not only will you have the advantage of using fireplace inserts and fireplace mantels, you will have a wonderfully decorative focal point for your home and if you have ever been entranced by the idea of your family gathered around a roaring fire to greet the holidays or if you like the idea of snuggling in with your spouse to enjoy a winter day, a fireplace is definitely the way for you to go. Though the traditional fireplace is mostly a feature in older homes, you will find that there are still plenty of them around.

Consider the iconic fireplace, the one that you see in all the movies. It is very recognizable and it has a wall mounted design that can make a it a part of living rooms or dens or recreation rooms. You may find that they are composed of ceramic, cement, brick, stone fireplace mantels or some mixture of those materials, and the rest of the room are shielded from sparks or stray flames by a metal screen or a glass folding screen. A fireplace mantel is a lovely place to store everything from pictures to trophies to fun knick knacks, and even the mantels themselves can be things of beauty, though there are certainly people who have decided that they prefer their mantels bare.

One important thing to consider when you are looking at traditional fireplaces is that in many ways, they will set the tone for the room. The things that you put on it, the stones that are used in it and even the doilies or runners that you use to protect your things from the grit of the mantel might inform how people look at the room. You might go for something wonderfully busy and traditional or you might look into finding one lovely piece that will represent your tastes and your interests. A pretty statue at the center of the fireplace mantel might be precisely what you need, but on the other hand, you might soon realize that you would prefer something to balance the ends as well.

When you are looking at a traditional fireplace, you might also find that you are in a place where you see the disadvantages as well. They are lovely, but it is important to remember that there are also some drawbacks as well. The issue with traditional fireplaces is that they have often become drafty or difficult to maintain and over time, this problem will only get worse. This is why so many older fireplaces are disappointingly blocked up. This is where a fireplace insert can come in. A fireplace insert is essentially a wood stove that fits into your traditional fireplace. It is encased in a steel shell and it is much better at heating things.

Take a moment to consider what a traditional fireplace can mean to your decorating and how you need to consider the accessories and tools that will help you enjoy it. There are so many different things that are wonderful about traditional fireplaces so check them out yourself!
