Like a bug on the inside of a window...I'll keep Chasin' da' Sun...

Can't make it through the clear barrier in my way...I end up on my back dead...when done!

Everytime I look and see...

That Sun still lies ahead of me!

I believe somehow I can make it through the thick glass...

I even use my rear hind legs to help push as hard as I can on my _ss!

Yet...I continue to mush my face...

Into this clear thing that has me stuck in place!

And if the window should indeed...at last...finally open...

I'd find a way to get stuck right back against the window...again!

Chasing the bright sunlight...and shooting for the stars...

The time I spent wasted on this Earth...I might as well've been living on Mars!

Each day...I spend trying to get through this barrier...Till I get weaker and weaker...

Each day...a little of my life ebbs away...and getting through to the other side....looks bleaker and bleaker!

Hungry and weak...I get up once more to spend the day pushing at what holds me back...

Weariness comes with the night...I will make it through tomorrow...I think I have the knack!

My whole body is telling me it is time to call it quits...

It hurts from ramming into the clear barrier...in so many fits!

And so with a sigh...Come morning...I fly once more to break through the window pane...

"Smack"...My barrier has returned again...Whatever it is that stops me...is making me insane!

Here I go again...Determination will eventually prevail...

"Bang"...I hit my face again...The reality is...I think that ultimately...I will fail!

I curse and scream...But no one is here...Buzzing around to hear...

I fall back on the window sill...My time on this Earth...is drawing to a close...I fear!

With one thin breath left within me...I shout out: "Oh Please, can someone help!"

A big human's finger shows up...Squishes my head in...I let out a "AAGH" with my final yelp!

Suddenly...the Sun is all around...and me...I am renewed once more to fly in Open Air...

I am free as the breeze itself...I have no more pain...There's no more defeat...or even a care!

I had met my barrier face-to-face...and in the end...it eventually won...

There was no way I could've made it back there...Look at me now...Free From Chasin' Da' Sun!

No fair! The barrier had help! If it wasn't for that damned human squishing your head in you could have continued pushing against that barrier for more and more days-- years, even!

But at least there's freedom and sunshine in death.

I hope I get that when I finally get to plow through that great clear windowshield in the sky!

As always, MPM, your take on life is ... buggy:-)! Good one!

This is so brilliant! :) Such great insight into life, yet sadly being squashed..but the whole fighting to get out that window. Amazing how many times I have tried to help a fly or bee to find the opening and they scurry and dive into the window pain...how we do the same, yet hopefully before seeing defeat within we can collect, breathe and find that opening! :) Kudo's !!

Mighty Mom: You crack me up...this poem was never buggin' you for a minute...you had this whole whacky thing figured out from the "get-go"! Thank you for reading this one...I have no doubt that you will "break-free" to where the Sun is Shining! Sincerely, MPM

I*n*v*i*c*t*u*s: Isn't it amazing how we have so much in common with that poor little helpless bug dying to be free?

Thank you for your kind comment...and also...you too...have great insight. It seems the first two who have read my poem...can relate to the part where we ultimately get squished in the head...how many times does that happen to us all? Thanks again, I*n*v*i*c*t*u*s!

Which do you think is a worse fate -- to know you are struggling in vain against an enemy that appears to be transparent but is lethal (e.g., the protagonist of your poem) or to be toodling along, flapping through the wind without a care in the world, minding your own bees-ness (or fly-ing high) when all of a sudden.... SPLAT! You're nothing but a bunch of yellow and white goo blocking some poor driver's field of vision?

Now that, to me, is the kind of existential question we should be debating on the HP Forums!

OK Mighty Mom...What if I told you that I personally believe that every man was put on this Earth to face his own "clear barrier"! How does that filter into fate? But...yes to the second one being better...How blindly niave is it to fly into the highway of oncoming traffic and say to yourself..."I think I'll aim for the clear portion of this huge obstruction heading right at me!" ??? A great one for the debates to expand our thinking past all the "he said-she said" daily routine! Shall you start the forum or shall I? The existential question...is your baby, Mighty Mom :)...I'm just a mere poet...Chasin da' Sun! But...I would be happy to introduce the topic...as well. Forgive me for the pun...Just playing with the words and having fun. That is what writing is all about to me! It is a great question that you pose...

If we only had more time to try to push through!.....The little bug had such a short life, and he learned so much about pushing through...if he only knew then what he knows now... oh, well...such is life! The second life will be much better! What a great poem!

needs_a_break: I also hope that you can have that freedom...as well! Thanks for your great comment and all your gracious words. Please...Read More! That would be...most excellent!

judydianne: Perhaps...He is but...the better bug for what he has learned in this lifetime...and he can apply it to the next dimension...where he will have no barriers...hitting him in the face! Appreciate your comment...as always. Humbly, MPM...

Wow. This could get pretty deep here. I, too, believe we are all put on this earth with our own individual clear barriers to overcome. But rather than being blindly naive in facing the oncoming barrier head on, what if the bug was exercising its faith? The bug believed that GUB (Gub is to bugs what God or Jesus is to Christian humans) would see him through.

I could see how this topic could play out over in the Forums. The main question is -- which Forum does it belong in? I fear reprisal from some of the so-called "believers" if I introduce a topic of bug mortality in the religious forum. But it is not exactly a scientific question either.

I will take a look and see if I can find both an appropriate Forum and the right words/tone with which to introduce the subject. After all,it IS Friday:-). And people have been behaving so nicely thusfar...

Mighty Mom: Yes Truly...The folks are acting very pleasant...as of late. Maybe...It will play-out really well and give folks something very unique to discuss for a change. It could turn out to be more fun...than in depth.

No matter...I know it is a great topic which does not need to get any of the "bugs" out before being introduced : ) ! Sadly...I won't be able to discuss much at the moment...as I will be away from a computer for awhile!

Well then, let's do it! I will allow you to do the honors, as it is your philosophical musings while Chasin' da' Sun that invited this line of thinking.

I do hope we don't devolve into something so basic/base as "sometimes you're the pigeon and sometimes you're the statue/sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug...." LOL. MM

Nice insight into a bug's life. I hate bugs myself but you made me feel sorry for this one. I'll never look at a bug in the same way again.

Well...I took a weekend off of Hub Pages...and came back to some really great comments.

Let me see here... answering one2get2no's comment: I guess now...you were able to see things from a bug's perspective...if only minutely? And, can see things a little better through their eyes! Remember that the next time you go to squish one of their brains in...or start "fogging" the house! Thanks for putting in a fun twist of a comment...and for reading this poem hub.

XTASIS: Well...I guess it can be sad...through all that the poor lil' bug struggles with...(but in the end the little guy succeeds...by nothing of his own doing!)...Kinda' alot like my own life...so I sure hope it is not too sad...or that it ends up in the same manner! Thanks for your comment, XTASIS...and for stopping in and reading this one.

loveofnight: Because you're a good and kind person...that doesn't like to see anything...even a bug...go out unfairly. But, I bet deep down there's a part of you that would splat that things brains in...if it landed on you...unexpected like...: ) ! Thanks for your comment.
