You want a cheap bankruptcy. But can you get it? With all the debt that you already have you are probably thinking that you are in no position to pay for the filing fees and lawyer expenses. Although it may be a tough pill to swallow, paying these fees will set you up for a healthy recovery. Aside from the filing fees, which you’re going to have to pay anyways, many people consider being their own lawyer in the court proceedings. But do you really think that you’ll do just as good a job as a bankruptcy lawyer? Bankruptcy law is very complex and only experienced lawyers know the ins and outs of the law. Not knowing a little piece of information may lead to your application being rejected. By paying a lawyer you are setting yourself up for a healthy long-term financial recovery. And once that lawyer helps you close your bankruptcy case, it will be a lot easier paying him or her. If you are filing for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, you’re going to have to pay your attorney before the case is closed because the lawyer fees are considered to be forgiven debt. If you filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy your attorney fees can be lumped into the consolidation repayment plan, which you’ll be given. Furthermore, many lawyers themselves offer payment planes. Although you may want to get as cheap a lawyer as possible, you get what you pay for. Before spending good money on an attorney, however, make sure to check out their reputation (you want to make sure that they are not ripping you off). You can check out their reputation by consulting friends and family and by simply talking to them. To talk to your local bankruptcy lawyers simply search for “Bankruptcy lawyer” at Yellowpages.com for your area. Although there are lot of services which offer advice (credit counseling agencies, university law students, and online websites), there is no replacement for a competent attorney. Although cheap bankruptcy may not exist, paying for bankruptcy expenses now will save you a lot of money and time in the future. Filing for a bankruptcy is no small game.
