Cheap Car Insurance: Is it Real?

You have probably seen the advertising spiels, and possibly been sucked in because one way of attracting the attention of a driver who is in the market for insurance cover is to give a promise of cheap car insurance quotes.

You should be very careful because not all companies that give cheap car insurance quotes are genuine. You have to take time and check out and confirm the reliability of the companies that offer cheap car insurance quotes. There is often a a risk that the insurance company that makes the claim may be hiding relevant details that have an impact on the quote, when it comes down to signing up. In summary: beware of the small print.

Tempting

Cheap car insurance quotes and offers may be very tempting. The best thing, however, is to take time to evaluate the companies that are offering the deal, particularly paying close attention to the following details:

  1. Much lower premiums than the industry average. Low...yes…but so low it doesn’t make sense….beware! A start-up company cannot just come from the blue, find other players in the industry and start offering very low premiums that are way below the industry. This can be a sign that a company may just be looking at the possibility of increasing capital from the premiums by a larger pool of people and it may not be having a solid financial base. You would also question how the company may be in a position to break-even with low premiums being in the same industry with others that have comparatively high premiums. Sometimes cheap does not add up.
  2. The lenient entry conditions. Most of the companies that offer cheap car insurance quotes tend to have less stringent conditions for the entry into their product. That actually means that anyone, without due restrictions can be allowed to join them as long as they have the ability to pay. Again, this can raise red flags as to the long term viability of the company.
  3. The status or the registration certificate. There are companies that are offering the services of insurance agencies and companies but they are not really registered properly for that line of service. These may be some sort of schemes that capitalize on a particular weakness in law. You need to be very sure that the authorities in the insurance regulators have given the company legitimate license to offer insurance services. It should not just be any other company that is following other legal statutes that have loopholes that can be manipulated. Make sure that the company is using the name ‘insurance’ in its records.
  4. Check testimonials. One good way of confirming the genuineness of cheap car insurance quotes is to have time to peruse through the testimonials of the companies concerned from the clients who have benefitted from the insurance company’s packages. There are written testimonials that should be available and you can sometimes speak to existing customers if you are on or near the company’s retail outlet.

A company may intend to provide genuine quotes at the beginning of the sales process in order to convince the customers to join them. However a degree of due diligence is required in order to satisfy yourself that the cheap insurance quote is legitimate. Sometimes it is better to go with an established “name” brand.
