Cheap Eating, Las Vegas Style
Budget Vegas Restaurants
Vegas is a city made for big spenders, but it's also a great place to find some bargains, especially when it comes to food. Some hotels and casinos will lure you in with budget meals in the hopes that you'll then drop some money in their casino. Other places are simply budget-conscious to survive the competition. And you don't have to dish your own food at a buffet to get a deal.
Each year, the Las Vegas Review-Journal presents its Best of Vegas awards. The awards include both staff and reader favorites. Here are some of their recent picks for cheap eating, Las Vegas style.
Cheap Eating in Las Vegas
For a deal on breakfast, the Review-Journal gave its 2010 Best Hotel Breakfast Special award to Marilyn's Cafe at the Tuscany Hotel and Casino. But you'll need to be an early riser or a night owl looking for a midnight snack to enjoy it. From midnight to 5 am, you can save on the late night specials, including steak and eggs for $3.99, rather than the regular $12.99.
If you're not ready to get up that early to save money on breakfast, try visiting any of the Station Casinos. They picked up the 2009 Best Hotel Breakfast Special award for providing cheap eating, Las Vegas style. Check out Boulder Station, Gold Rush or Wild, Wild West for hearty morning meals under $3.
Later in the day, try La Cabana for some inexpensive Mexican Food. The Review-Journal called it a "little bitty place that's tough to find if you don't know where to look" (it's located on Martin Luther King Blvd), but the paper gave this little restaurant the big award for the Best Meal Under $10 award in 2009.
The 2010 and 2008 winners of the Best Meal Under $10 award have both closed, but the 2007 winner is still in business and worth a visit. The Village Pub, with multiple locations throughout Vegas, earned this award in 2007. A different special is offered each day from 11 am "until they're gone" and include menu items such as a complete turkey dinner, pot roast dinner, a half roast chicken and other meals, all for less than $10 each.
Another good place for cheap eating in Las Vegas is Broadway Pizzeria. They took the 2006 honor for Best Lunch Deal from the Review-Journal's Best of Vegas awards. The specials here change each day and most include the house specialty - garlic knots.
