What is a 'Google Bomb'?

Probably not all of you who are reading this will actually know what a google bomb is, so I guess I had better start off with an explanations. According to Wikipedia.org a google bomb is:

"A Google bomb (or "link bomb") is Internet slang for a certain kind of attempt to raise the ranking of a given page in results from a Google search, often with humorous or political intentions"

In other words you create a page and then get it listed at the top of the search results for a particular search term, just as you would try to if you wanted to get search engine traffic for your website or for a page you have created on a site like this, but you do it in a tongue in cheek way. So for example you might try to engineer it so that when someone types the word 'idiot' into google, they get a page about George Bush (if you happen to think that he is an idiot and want to let the world know).

So How Can A Google Bomb Be A Gift?

Well it is simple actually. Lets say I wanted to give something to a friend living in my home city of Birmingham. I could create a page about them on hubpages, and then google bomb the page so that when someone types "who is the most handsome and intelligent man in the whole of Birmingham" into the google search box, their name and photo come up at the top of the search results.

How Do You Do It?

It's actually much easier than you might think if you know a little bit about how search engine results are chosen. In my example above I guarantee that there is no competition whatsoever for the phrase "who is the most handsome and intelligent man in the whole of Birmingham", and even if by some obscure chance there was, then I could just alter the words slightly so that there wouldn't be. So if you create a page on hubpages and target this keyword phrase, it would be easy to get top the top of the search results. I would suggest that you create a page with the persons name as the title, as this will have more impact when it comes up as the highlighted text on google, and then use the phrase you are targeting as the 'capsule subtitle' in a text capsule at the top of the page, and then repeat it once or twice throught your page. Make a page about the person, saying lots of nice things and not forgetting to include a photo of them too. Then all you need is to create a few links with your chosen phrase as the 'anchor text' (the text people click on). If you are a regular hubpages user with lots of hubs then just add a link to each of your pages here, if you have a blog or website then use that, or else just search for 'social bookmarking' website and submit you link to them, or add it to any social networking sites or forums you use. It shoudn't be hard to find a few places to put up a link, and because it is a unique phrase you shouldn't need many to make it work.

I think this would be a great personalized, thoughtful gift for someone, especially a man who would probably love showing it off to his mates.

 Actually this one can be for anyone, but I personally think it works best as a gift for a partner, and particularly as something for a woman to give to a man. So what is it? Privilege cards. If you want to it's pretty easy to make these yourself for free, but you can also have them printed up pretty cheaply if your not an artistic kind of person or if you don't have the time to spend on it. Basically it's just a set of cards, probably about the size of a business card works best (you can print them on those business card machines you see some places, or online or on your computer) and each one is redeemable for a specific favour. This makes it both fun and very personalized, as you have to think up interesting favours you could do for that person and then let them choose to take them. As well as being a cheap gift it can also be a nice way to bring you closer together, to spice up your sex life (but be careful not to include anything your not completely comfortable doing!) or to let them know you appreciate the things that they do by offering to help with those things which they are normally left to do.

 This is a similar kind of idea but there is a small cost to it ($20) because unless you are an experienced programmer you will have to join a website to be able to do it. Most men love wearing cool sunglasses because it panders to the rock star fantasy that most of us still secretly harbour.
