Located off the mainland of Thailand, Samui is the third largest island in the group of islands that make up the nation. Koh Samui - Koh means island in Thai, is home to many secluded and spacious beaches. Clean and white, the sands literally stand out against the rich green coconut palms, lush rain forest and paddy fields when you look out the window of your airplane seat. Should you choose the waterway into Samui, you'll be greeted by the many boats that fringe the dock. If you are heading to Samui towards the end of May, you'll be able to see the fast becoming popular annual Koh Samui Regatta.

Wondering where to stay is quite a difficult task. After all each place is more beautiful and comfortable than the next. The first decision is the location - pick from any of the beaches - Chaweng, Lamai, Maenam, Big Buddha or Bophut.

Chaweng, the largest beach in Samui, has the maximum hotels and resorts in the upper range but you will be able to find some low priced beach bungalows too. This beach has the most activity in terms of restaurants, shops and night clubs. Lamai is the next in size as well as in activity but the range of hotels is more here. You'd be able to locate more resorts in the middle rate range. Maenam beach is now gaining popularity as more and more people are heading for less commercialized and virgin territories. There are more budget hotels here than the previous two locations. If you are more culturally inclined then you will find Big Buddha beach the best option. For starters there is the very famous landmark - the Big Buddha here. Apart from that, this beach also hosts the weekly Secret garden music festival. Finally, for those looking for secluded romantic places, Bophut would be ideal. As yet not very developed, this place offers some good bargains and with the added allure of romantic beach-side eating joints.

I spent my last holidays in Koh Samui, what a beautiful place! a truly paradise island. I stayed at Kamalaya, a fantastic health spa resort on the South of the island. Detox retreats, yoga, holistic treatments... all you could expect and more. I hope I can come back next year to visit Koh Samui.Thank you for your blog and information about resorts in Koh SamuiAlberto
