Cheap Performance Car Insurance is a Reality!
Insurance companies are often not happy to insure performance cars, especially if they are modified or if it is going to be a young driver behind the wheel. If you are a car enthusiast and young, your quickest way to cheaper car insurance is rather driving a modest car. But this is not the kind of news you are looking for, and this article seeks to tell you how you can get cheap performance car insurance – so you need not worry about driving another car.
Insurance companies see enthusiasts as “racers” and so many won't offer insurance. After all that money, time and effort spent on the car, you would think that insurance companies would realise that any person is not about to deliberately go and drive their car into a wall. You love this car – why would you seek to destroy it? With car insurance for young drivers being so expensive it may seem that there is nothing but bad news if you want cheap insurance for your performance car.
Well, here is the good news. Budding and rather ingenious entrepreneurs have now seen that there is a serious market here to be taken advantage of, and so they have opened up smaller insurance companies that specialise in insurance performance vehicles. The price, in itself, may be high because of the risk factors but will still be lower than what any other conventional company will offer you.
The catch is that these performance car insurance companies will ask you to meet some conditions. The conditions are not unreasonable and are fairly easy to comply to. You may even want to phone conventional insurance companies and offer these conditions to them, and see if you can negotiate a better price by meeting these conditions.
The first condition, unfortunately, is that the driver must be over 19. Over 40 percent of insurance claims in the UK are filed by 17 and 18 year olds, so this is a condition based on statistics. Unfortunately, for those teens, there is really no good news – no company will really insure you, but it's worth a try anyway.
The second condition is that the driver has attended an advanced driving course and has a certificate for passing, which is good for you and for them. Plus, advanced driving courses are fun and give you the opportunity to really get to know your vehicle and put it against some great odds.
After these conditions, you can negotiate a more fair pricing by talking about the following with the insurance company:
1) The car's security – if the car has an immobiliser or an alarm system (which you probably have installed, being a performance vehicle) mention this to them and see what you can negotiate. Even an additional krooklock (metal rods that lock across the steering wheel) or gearlocks (locking the gear shift in place) can aid in lower premiums.
2) Who is driving the vehicle – if you are going to be the only driver of the vehicle, then mention so. Of course, you won't be able to let anyone else drive the car, but it is your car isn't it? There is no reason why they should not drop the premiums if you are the only driver.
3) Driving limits – agree that you will only drive the vehicle to work and back, or only drive it on weekends, certain days of the week etc.
