If you go on Ebay and search for a computer or a laptop, you will find many of them that are refurbished. They are not new, not used, but refurbished and that makes you wonder exactly what the word "refurbished means"?

Anything that is refurbished has gone back to the manufacturer (or some other authorized fix it place) because there has been something wrong with it. In the case of a computer it can be for something as big as the computer won't turn on to something as small as the buttons not being attached properly.

When something is refurbished, it is very rare that you will be able to find out the reason. This is unfortunate as you are sort of rolling the dice in terms of what problem the item had. With a laptop for instance, you would much rather the problem have been a faulty button or something minor like that instead of a major thing like the screen not working.

If you have lots of money there is probably no reason for you to ever buy anything refurbished. However, if you are budget conscience, there are some instances where you might want to consider doing it.

Buying a kids first laptop might be one of those instances. Most young children probably get the laptops their parents discard after upgrading. But if there are no hand me downs, you are going to have to buy your child a laptop from a store (or online).

Any young child is probably not going to understand the value of a laptop and how breakable it is. They are most likely not going to treat it with the care they should and so it is understandable to not want to spend top dollar on one.

This is where buying referbished laptops would be the right choice. Why spend full price for one when you can get one much cheaper and not have to worry as much? If you log on to Ebay you will find many different laptops of all prices (like the NC6000 refurbished) that are all refurbished for you to choose between.

If you are thinking about buying a refurbished laptop, make sure it comes with the warranty. This is just smart business and especially so in this case since you know there has been some sort of a problem with the unit in the past.

The good thing about refurbished laptops is that most of them are virtually new and you are getting them for a cheaper price. Often times, a new computer or laptop will be bought and opened by the purchaser. There will be a problem with the unit right from the start and they will take it back to the store and then it will be shipped off to be repaired.

In those instances, the laptops have hardly been used and maybe not even used at all so you will be getting a virtually new computer for the reducted price. If you are willing to take the small risk, buying refurbished laptops is the way to go for those instances where you don't want to pay full price.
