Welding Goggles - Great Costume Props

Are you going as an obscure superhero or is Steampunk the theme?

Authentic welding goggles are a simple way to make an impression and top off the perfect outfit. Thanks to stong competition between suppliers they are now so cheap that you don't need to buy imitation goggles - the real deal can be picked up for around $10.

This article lists a few of the styles available and shows you where to get them online.

Welding Goggle Styles

You have three basic styles to choose from.

1) Sunglasses style: As the name suggests it consists of two eye cups joined by a thin connector similar to traditional sunglasses. These don't look too industrial and are a popular choice.

2) Rounded Goggle: With separate circular viewing lenses integrated into a complete goggle these often come with flip up front. This allows you to get around a party at night while keeping your look. (See right)

3) Rectangular Goggles: For the more industrial / mad scientist look, these goggles are recommended. They also usually have the flip up front lens.

Customize your Look - Steampunk anyone?

The other great thing about only spending $10 -$15 on some goggles is the freedom to have a go at customizing them.

If things go horribly wrong at least you didn't lose much.

It is also great news if they are for a one off party. Having said that, you never know when they will come in handy again. You might take up welding.

Sunglasses Style Welding Goggles

You can actually wear these as sunglasses.

Very comfortable and look great. One of the most popular goggles for costume use. The lens is not too dark although you may have a little difficulty getting around at night.

Cheap Flip Up Welding Goggles

 The cheapest of the lot.

Dark lenses flip up to allow navigation in dark areas. Clear lenses remain underneath. Suits the classic welding look.

Industrial Look Welding Goggles

The rectangular lens makes this one deliver a harder look.

Suitable for stronger costumes, it won't be overpowered by other props.

Flip up makes it great for parties.
