Inexpensive Coolness

We all want to be the cool aunt, uncle, or family friend that brings the best gifts for our nephews when we visit, there's a birthday or even just because and you can be without dropping a ton of cash!

If you don't have young boys around you on a regular basis, you might be scratching your head wondering what young boys are into these days. Well, here are a few tried and true classic gifts that any boy (ages 5-9) will go crazy for.

The Whoopee Cushion

Who knew flatulence could be so much fun? The makers of the Whoopee Cushion sure did and have been cashing in on this cheap and entertaining toy since 1930.

Blow it up, hide it under an unsuspecting relative who is about to sit down and the hilarity ensues. The kids don't even need the element of surprise to start the giggling and good times, the sounds on their own are enough to keep them busy for at least a good hour.

For under $10, this instantly recognizable toy will make you a hero in your little guy's eyes (maybe no so much in his parents' eyes though).

Astronaut Food

Young boys are fascinated by outer space; you would be hardpressed to find a boy that at some point hasn't played or wanted to be an astronaut.

Let the little gift recipient know that you have some ice cream waiting for them in your purse, suitcase, or some other unlikely location. And pull out a package of Astronaut Freeze-dried Ice Cream! It comes in many flavors and you can get it at The Space Store for under $3 USD per package.

Try regular, double chocolate, an ice cream sandwich or mint chip ice cream - yummy!

Cash in a Wallet

Boys between the ages of 5-9 love money, even if they don't entirely grasp the concept of how it works yet. The beauty of this is you can give them a crisp $5 bill and they will be estactic and will start calculating how much candy they can buy with it.

If you don't want to hand over money on it's own, find a cool wallet to put it into. Of course you could go the traditional piggy bank route but the wallet will be a much bigger novelty for the kids. If you want to kick it up a notch get one that has a chain to attach to their belt loops, the added benefit here is that it is less likely to be lost this way.
