Cheese, Bread and Red Wine?
This hub is not about France, but I have to mention the country because this originated from France. France is known for not just their fashion designers, clothing and parfums (Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and Eau de Cologne), but their long list of cheese varieties, wines and wineries as well. FYI, France is still the greatest wine-producing country.
A year and a half ago, my best friend who was a month away from getting married tried this "diet" for three weeks and the result was not just promising, but amazing. We heard this diet from her younger brother and his girlfriend, a French girl. She said that French love to eat cheese, not just for snack, but as their full meal. She also said that it is wrong to assume and to be misled by what we always see on movies or tv that they are always spending money eating out or dining out every single day. The truth is to most of them who are busy working and on a tight budget, they just grab the basics that they usually have in the pantry. Red Wine, cheese and bread is considered a full meal to them. That would account for how most of them are on the skinny or lighter side, just my conclusion.
Cheese consists of Protein, among the dairy products this contains the largest contributor to the amount of protein food supply, so cheese is a source of high-quality protein (that contains all of the amino acids in amounts proportional to the body’s need for them). Also cheese is a good source of Calcium and amount of fat that our body needs. Minerals and Vitamins can be found too. You can’t go wrong with cheese.
A daily serving of Carbohydrate that we need for our body can be found in bread, either whole grain (great source of Fiber, Thiamin, Riboflavin and Sodium) or a regular white loaf, it is the best source for carbohydrate.
There are studies that Red Wine is good on our circulatory system. Kudos to all of you red wine aficionados! Researchers found a 40 percent lower mortality rate from ischemic heart disease among people in France. Studies showing drinking three ounces of alcohol each day has a beneficial effect, but any more than that and the alcohol begin to have a negative health effect. Also, studies of comparing alcoholic beverages show an overwhelming benefit from drinking red wine. Scientists found that polyphenols (quercetin, anthocyanidins, catechins ) which are active constituents in Red Wine are powerful anti–oxidants. Anti–oxidants slow cell deterioration. The polyphenols also help prevent the build-up of plaque on the smooth muscle cells, as well as inhibit platelet formation, which can lead to blood clotting. My conclusion is this not just benefits people with current heart problems, but normal healthy people as well to prevent having one. To those of you who are counting calories according to my research, Pinot Noir and Merlot are good if not the best for you.
I am not a diet guru and I am not pretending to be one, I just want to share this with you and to those of you who are not lactose intolerant.

This is my favorite diet...!!! I do it about twice a year for 6 weeks, and, voila, 20 lbs disappear off my rack...The great thing about this diet is I get to check out all those great French and California Cabs and Zins, discover new cheeses from around the world, and tear off chunks of a french baguette like Louis Jordan or Yves Montand....

Bread, cheese and wine - perfect combination! Never been able to lose weight on it, eventhough tried it so many times. Maybe if you just drink wine or just eat cheese, that would probably work :) Great pictures!
Way to go Princessa, a healthy diet is a jewel.
Bread, cheese and wine are a very important part of my diet. I can happily survive (and I do) in only that. Most evenings I only take that for dinner. I do have a normal 3 course lunch -with a glass of wine of course- but for dinner just cheese and wine. Except the days when I have dinner out and actually have another 3 course meal with wine and cheese included!

Bread, cheese and wine. Great combination! All one needs is someone with which to enjoy that feast.............the "thou" factor.
Red wine is definitely good for one. Many studies have proven that.
As to French wines being the best, well.......those are fighting words! Ha!

I subscribed to Wine Spectator Magazine, not sure if it is the right direction to take to get good info about wines. Might as well hear it from the owner and the expert. :-)
