If you're craving something but you don't know what, this warm cheesey bread is just the thing! Easy and ready in 15 minutes!
Keep french loaf on hand for quick snacks and to satisfy the "salty-crunchy-meaty-more-than-a-snack-but-less-than-a-meal" mood.
As a large family we seemed to live in that zone. Feeding the masses can be tiresome, sometimes I just ran out of ideas. If you stare at the open fridge, and pantry, not knowing what to fix in a jiffy, this is the answer. It's tasty, salty, hot, crunchy, but won't overstuff you! I learned to keep french bread handy - it was good for lots of quick meals or inbetween meal snacks on the run!
If you're kids are always hungry, memorize this recipe and you'll satisfy them with minimal time. if you're diabetic, sorry, this is a no-no; but you're family will love it and you might be okay with a bite, and a walk.
Ingredients:
1 c to 1/2 c shredded mozzarella cheese or your favorite melty cheese
1 c 4 oz mushroom stems and pieces, drained
2 tbls fresh shredded parmesan cheese
2 tbls chopped green onion
1 loaf french bread, halved
Procedure:
- Combine the mozzarella cheese, mushrooms, mayo, Paramesan cheese and onion. Spread mixture on each half of bread
- Grill, covered over indirect heat or broil 5 inches from the top heat on broiler for 5 - 10 min. Don't over brown, but make sure cheese is melted. It will continue to melt after removal from oven. Slice into pieces and serve warm or with a Crab It Hot Dip.
If you want more calories and flavor, brush the bread with melted butter before adding ingredients. Sorry, it's yummy but fattening. 20 Minute Walk, anyone?
This is almost like a loaf pizza and does well with additional ingredients such as pepperoni, ground beef (cooked), canadian bacon, tomatoes, or peppers, etc. This is really fun for kids to create their own pizza bread.
French loaf in a busy household is a must. Of course, if you're counting carbs, or can't eat breads due to dieting, you can try some of the crusty healthy versions of bread so available in bakeries now. The nutty grainy breads do great topped with these ingredients and the cheese substitutes create healthy versions. Don't limit yourself, but keep it simple.
Keeping a steady supply in the fridge of pre-chopped vegetables, and pre-cooked meat is a great way to stay ahead of mealtime preparation. Taking time think ahead is the best time-saver.
My friends and house guests thought I was so organized, but I told them it was a basically lazy approach. I hate to panic or spend hours in the kitchen for just one meal. Being prepared in advance makes any meal so much easier, and I'm for that!
