Chemistry.com has been around since 1999 and has one of the largest databases of members. Many people prefer Chemistry.com because it is only available within the United States, eliminating long-distance relationships across continents. Chemisty.com is completely designed to help people find long-term relationships versus short-term relationships.

One of the best features Chemistry.com has compared to others is matching you with others who share your preferences. If you answer honestly and thoroughly on your profile questionnaire, you will be matched with others who share your religious background, smoking or drinking habits, educational background, preferred body type, and many other things.

Every day you will be given 5 matches based on your profile information. If you find someone you are interested in, you can click on their name and read a summary of their profile. On the bottom of everyone's profile page, it will list the qualities that person is interested in, allowing you to determine if you "fit the bill".

Another great feature of Chemistry.com is that you have the ability to see who looked at your profile. You can view all the profiles of singles that checked you out by clicking on the "interested in you" link. If you are interested in one of the singles, you need to become a full subscriber to continue. If you are a full subscriber, you can initiate contact with that member using your internal mailbox system.

Match.com created Chemistry.com to compete with other internet dating sites like eHarmony.com. Chemisty.com is focused on building long-term relationships versus short-term dating. When you join Chemistry.com, you will take a lengthy personality profile. The personality profile will be entered into Chemistry.com's scientific software that will match you with someone who shares your ideals, personality, likes, and dislikes. You do not have to pay to fill out the personality profile, but you will have to pay if you want to meet some of the people on the dating site. You will receive email matches and be able to read the profile of other members and see photos of them.

Chemistry.com currently has over 3 million members in the United States. The matching system of Chemistry.com is based on Dr. Helen Fisher's profile to help prepare matches. Chemistry.com will develop a match based on major and minor personality types. The personality types are based on different things like an explorer, builder, negotiator, and director. Compatibility and chemistry are large parts of human attraction and the beginning of a successful relationship. Dr. Fisher believes that there is more than one person for each person and her matching system is designed to increase possible matches for each individual person.

Chemistry.com has a unique matching system called "1-2-3 Meet." This system insure that once you find someone you are interested in that you can meet in person instead of wasting time e-mailing one another. This unique system helps you avoid wasting your time with people that you aren't compatible with. Chemistry.com costs $49.95 a month, this is much higher than other dating sites. Chemistry.com claims they have a proven matching system with "1-2-3 Meet" and this is why they cost more than other dating sites. If you sign up for a longer membership, you will end up paying less:

  • $33.32 a month for 3 months
  • $26.66 a month for 6 months
  • $20.83 a month for 12 months

You are responsible for canceling your membership when it reaches the end of its term. If you do not cancel, it will continue on a month to month basis. You can also reactivate your membership at a later time for a lower price.

Chemistry.com also has "first meeting" technology that will help you plan your date for that first meeting. They will use you and your match's zip codes to find good meeting places nearby. The first meeting usually will occur at a coffee shop, but you can specify another location if you would like. Once you meet with another single, you are allowed to leave feedback to Chemistry.com and inform them how the meeting went. Any feedback you leave will help the matching system improve. The feedback system will ask questions like "how was your date's punctuality, listening skills, and the overall rating of your date." At the end of the feedback questionnaire, you will inform Chemistry.com if you are interested in getting to know this person more or if you would like to continue meeting other singles. You will receive a message from Chemistry.com about whether or not your date is interested in meeting again.

Here are the pros and cons of Chemistry.com.

Pros:

  • Photo profiles
  • Compatible match-making system based on your honest answers
  • Secure email
  • Advice articles and helpful dating tips

Cons:

  • Expensive monthly payment
  • Third-party advertising via email and throughout the web site
  • Cannot search for matches, you can only rate the ones you have been assigned from Chemistry.com

There are usually promotions available on the web site for other features, but there are usually not promotions or discounts for signing up. You can sign up for a 7 day trial and try to find a match in that time, but you can only do this once. Here are some user reviews of Chemistry.com:

"I wanted to try out Chemistry.com to see if the site lived up to the advertising hype. Unfortunately, it didn't. Here's why: You are limited to viewing 5 matches a day, so if you find the ones presented to you to not be appropriate you have to wait to receive more matches. You are given a Chemistry Profile based on a series of questions. This profile (major and minor personality types) is then used as part of the matching criteria. Your profile description includes rankings of which personality types match best with you. So I was surprise to find men with each of the different personality types all described to me as a "Great Match". It does not seem that the Chemistry Profile holds the necessary weight in selecting matches. Especially, as the men I found the most interesting WERE the ones, according to my chemistry profile description, which were considered the best match. This may seem minor, but what ended up really irking me was the large number of matches who seemed illiterate or extremely careless in typing. These were discounted immediately (and I saw 2-3 of these a day!) I recommend if you are trying to find a mate that you use a spell-checker, or better yet, have a friend review your statement. I had paid a premium to join Chemistry.com believing that their matching criteria would be more accurate. I was sorely disappointed to find it was not." - Female, Age 39

"Chemistry.com is an offshoot of Match.com, set up to be like eHarmony.com. After more than two months of usage, my biggest observation is that Match has given away many free memberships to its female subscribers so they can use Chemistry.com . Many of the "New Matches" end up being inactive profiles of Match.com users. They promise that you will have three meetings or you get three more months free. Not sure I'm that interested at this point in more inactive profiles. They are also suppose to gather info from who you make active or who you archive, however, it seems to be bunk, as I'm always getting profiles without pictures, wrong race, too far away and body shape. My recommendation to other men.... don't waste your money, stay with a site where you can pick your matches and know that the gals are active on the site, also you get five matches per day and they don't update the site until late in the morning, it should happen overnight, a bit annoying." - Male, Age 36
