Thinking About a Cherry Blossom Tree Tattoo?

Often, the decision making process around a tattoo starts with the location on the body where you would like to wear it. A cherry blossom tree tattoo has to fit both in the spot, and in any other artwork you have had done already. Obviously if this is your first tattoo, fitting in with the rest is not a concern, but in either event location is critical.

Once you’ve picked a spot, and maybe even narrowed your selection to a cherry blossom tree tattoo, there are still several considerations left.  First, what does the cherry blossom mean to you?  Do you follow the Chinese interpretation of its symbolism and believe that it represents feminine power and superiority?  Do you follow the Japanese interpretation of its symbolism and believe that it represents the transient nature of life?  Does it symbolize some combination of the two for you?  After all, they are not mutually exclusive.  Understanding the symbolism behind the cherry blossom tree tattoo will no doubt help you decide which style of tattoo you will ultimately be most happy with.

I have seen a lot of cherry blossom tree tattoo work done on ankles, feet, and shoulders.  The size of the tattoo can be dictated by where it will be worn.  With the cherry blossom tree, you can modify the artwork to fit where you would like it to end up.  Nobody wants to have exactly the same off the shelf tattoo, so in any case you will likely work with the artist to tune the image to your tastes.  You may want to consider how much of the tree to actually include.  You may also consider how many blossoms to include, and what colors to include.

Will you blend this tattoo in with other artwork, or will it stand alone.  Will it combine the cherry blossom tree with other themes, like the Celtic tree of life?  Will you get an outline, or a full color tattoo?  What about the background? Will you have just your skin, or will the tree fit into an elaborate garden theme?  Will this tattoo be completely visible, or will parts of it be covered by your clothing?  And, perhaps most of all, is your artist willing and able to work with you to implement your vision in ink?  After all, you have spent a lot of time figuring out what you want.  Make sure you get exactly that.
