Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is more than just a bridge- tunnel. It's unforgettable.

It is a connection between Virginia beach, Virginia and Wilmington Delaware. It crosses over the southern part of the Chesapeake Bay and a tiny part of the Atlantic Ocean. Since this a major shipping channel, the ships need to be able to cross over the tunnels or go under the bridges. With the layout of the bridge/tunnel it's easy to have the many ships pass through without disrupting traffic on the bridges.

The bridge is 17.6 miles from end to end. There are 2 toll booths at each end of this with about 20 miles between them.

There are 2 tunnels that are about 1 mile long each, there are 4 bridges that some are 75 feet high for clearance.

The islands are along the way which you can stop and enjoy the beauty of the tunnel, and the trip. These are located at the end of the tunnels. Each island is about 5.25 area each and are about 30 feet above water. One has a restaurant on, and you can pull over and fish off of the islands.

It does cost to travel the bridge tunnel, but it's well worth the price. You can always get update weather information on the bridge at http://www.cbbt.com/ and it will give you up to date information. If you have never been you are missing a wonderful experience.
