Buenos Aires

Chick Habana's Latin American heritage is from the South American continent, one of the most interesting, largest and exciting cities of which is Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires is a complex, vivacious, and even sexy city, and represents the gateway to Argentina.

The multinational people of Buenos Aires are known as Portenos,

The Portenos think highly of their European heritage. This is most clearly seen in the Italian and German peoples who outnumber the Spanish, as well as cultural and architectural features are markedly European.

One of the world's greatest and most impressive opera houses, the Teatro Colon, blossoms here on the banks of the river.

The physical outlay of Buenos Aires is mosaic-like and as varied and various as its culture. The city has no commanding monument, and lacks a natural monolith that might play a part as a focal point. Rather than that, Buenos Aires is comprised of many cozy places, intimate details, and small, significant, subtle events and interactions; each with it's own character. Marvellous glass-shrouded skyscrapers cast their slim shadows on 19th century Victorian homes; tango bars chevied with the zesty tang of cigar aroma face old-world, treasure-stocked antique shops.

Buenos Aires have neighboorhoods are modest and very individualized, each with its own characteristic colorations.

In the San Telmo district, for example, the city's transnational heritage is incarnated in a varied and universally styled architecture - Spanish Colonial design joins with Italian detailing and elegant French Classicism. La Boca's tin houses are multi-colored with a rainbow of glosses, and wall-painters have made the district's enchanting, fantastical side-streets into avenues of story-book color.

Buenos Aires is of course the home of the tango. It is perhaps the most indicative expression of Latin passion and grace combined into a passionate, lively dance form.
