Marinate chicken in the curd for two hours. Grind one onion, ginger and garlic to a fine paste together. Dice potatoes into six pieces each. Slice the remaining onion. Chop the tomatoes into small pieces. Shallow fry the potato and keep aside.
Heat oil in a wok or pressure cooker. Add the cinnamon stick and the sugar. Add the sliced onion. Fry it a bit and add the onion paste. Cover and let the masala (spice) cook till it browns. Add the marinated chicken and tomatoes, turmeric, salt, chilli powder. Cover and cook for 10-12 minutes, turning it from time to time so the masala doesn't stick to the bottom. Uncover and let it simmer till the water dries and the chicken gets fried. Add the potatoes and mix with the chicken. Let the mix cook for sometime, unncovered. When its dry and red, add garam masala, one cup water and cover it. Let it cook for 20 minutes in slow to medium heat. If you are using a pressure cooker, close after two whistles.
