Developing Character Through Child Bible Stories

Many people enjoy sharing Bible stories with their children, but for some it may seem like they're too young to grasp the concepts. In reality, children are little sponges that soak up whatever knowledge you bestow upon them.

Sharing Bible stories with your child is one of the simplest ways to help them grow and develop a strong character. What better way is there to instill values in your child than to share the most inspiring stories?

In the Bible, you can find stories that encompass any value you want to share with your child. You'll find faith, loyalty, honesty, courage, and generosity just to name a few. And instead of actually telling your child he needs to have "courage" you can provide him with examples of real people who exemplified it.

Bible stories also help your children to understand the values and morals that you share. Bible stories are full of situations where people have had to learn the commandments and follow them.

Stories from the Bible have an amazing way of connecting with children. Yes, they were written thousands of years ago. But their meaning and impact is far from an antiquity. The stories of the Bible were written in such a way that they apply to anyone at any time.

In addition to learning from the stories themselves, your children will also benefit from the fact that you're sharing such an important part of your life with them. If your kids know that the Bible is something you treasure and you show that by sharing it with them again and again, they're more likely to treasure it as well.

Children learn and develop character through example. So as you're sharing Bible stories with your children and working hard to emulate the strength you see in those people of old, your children are watching you.

Child Bible stories can impact your child's life in so many ways. Even if you think your child is too young to benefit from them, it's a good idea to give it a try. You'll be surprised when your little one makes a good choice and tells you it's because of a story you've shared from the Bible.

Your little one may not be ready to read straight from the Bible or be able to understand the complicated text. A good child Bible story may be a good way to transition into a higher level of scripture reading later in life. Don't wait to share these important narratives with your child.

Joseph And His Many Brothers

Jacob had 12 sons. Can you imagine a family with 11 brothers? It must have been tough! There were 12 boys, but one of them was Jacob's favorite. His name was Joseph, and he would one day be a great man.

God also took a liking to Joseph. He gave Joseph the magical power to understand the meaning of dreams. One day, this great power would save the lives of many people.

Jacob gave his son, Joseph, a present. It was a special coat that was made of many colors. It was a beautiful coat, and he wore it proudly. But, Joseph's brothers became jealous. They were angry that their father would give Joseph such a special present and give them nothing.

Out in the fields one day, Joseph's brothers attacked him. They ganged up on him and threw him down into a very deep well. His magical coat was lying in the field, and this gave one of his brothers another idea.

"Let's paint his coat red and tell father that Joseph was eaten by a wild beast!" So, they painted the many-colored coat red and took it to Jacob. He thought it was blood, and when they told him the story, he wept and mourned for the death of his favorite son.

"Now, let's get rid of Joseph once and for all," they said. After they returned to the fields, they took him out of the well and sold him to some wicked slave traders from Egypt.

It was a terrible thing to happen to poor Joseph! But, God had a plan for Joseph. Sometimes horrible things that happen are really blessings in disguise!

In Egypt, the Pharaoh (the leader of Egypt) had a strange dream. In his dream, there were 7 skinny cows and 7 fat cows, and the skinny cows ate the fat cows. Then, he saw 7 scrawny ears of corn and 7 big ears of corn, and the scrawny ears ate the big ears.

Joseph heard about this dream, and he knew what it meant. God had given him this power to understand dreams. So, he went to Pharaoh and he told him, "This dream means that we shall have 7 years of good crops, and then 7 years of famine. In the 7 good years, we must store as much food as we can. Then, we will have plenty to eat for the bad years."

And, it was just as Joseph had said. During the 7 good years, the people of Egypt saved meat and grain. Then came 7 years of famine all over the world. No crops would grow, and the animals starved and died. Only the people of Egypt had enough food to eat.

After this, the people of Egypt loved Joseph. So, he became the new ruler of Egypt!

During these hard years when there was no food, Jacob sent his sons to Egypt to get grain. When Joseph's brothers all came before him, not one of them recognized the ruler of Egypt as their brother. But, he recognized them.

Can you imagine how Joseph must have felt? What would YOU do if you were him? This is what Joseph did: he forgave them. He told them, "I am Joseph, the brother you sold away!" Instead of giving them grain, he told them to move their whole family to Egypt. They lived happily in Egypt from then on, with plenty to eat.

The Story Of Moses

The Story Of Noah And The Great Flood

Noah was a good guy. Everyone knew Noah and liked him. They also knew that he was a man of God. He lived strictly by God's laws, and never did a bad thing to anyone.

God also knew Noah. He knew Noah had a good heart, and that is why he chose him for a special task. You see, at this time the world had turned bad. People everywhere were ignoring the word of God and doing terrible things to each other. The world was full of sin.

So, one day God came to Noah. "Noah," he said, "I have a special job for you. I want you to build an ark. The ark must be 300 cubits long."

"300 cubits?" Noah asked. That was a very big boat!

"Yes," God told him. "It must be 300 cubits and no less. This ark will have a very special purpose." Noah was never one to question God, so he set about building the ark.

When the ark was finished, God told Noah, his wife, and his 2 sons Shem Ham and Japheth and their wives, to get on board. He also gave Noah animals to take on his journey. He brought at least 2 of each animal, a male and female, so that they could have children.

Noah and his family stood on board waiting for God's next words. It began to rain. God closed the big door of the ark. He said nothing more.

It rained. And, it rained. And, it rained. It kept raining for 40 days and 40 nights, until the whole world was covered in water. Even the highest mountain peaks were below the water. All the people and animals of the earth drowned and died. All except for Noah, his family, and the animals on the ark.

One day the rain stopped. Then, the water began to lower. Soon, Noah could see the peaks of the mountains.

Noah sent a dove from the ark to fly around the world. It came back a few days later with an olive leaf in its beak. Noah and his family looked at each other and smiled. They were happy because this olive leaf meant there were trees and plants again!

Soon, God came to Noah again. The great door of the ark was opened, and before it stood dry land, full of plants and animals, for as far as the eye could see.

Noah was more faithful to God than ever. He made an altar for Him and prayed at this altar every day.

For Noah, God made the rainbow. God promised that he would never again destroy everything on the earth, and this rainbow is a sign of this promise.

Whenever you see a rainbow, think of Noah's faithfulness in God and God's promise to Noah!
